The rates were reported to take effect immediately and remain in force through the end of February. They are historical figures, not October 2026 prices.
What were the new petrol and diesel prices?
TechJuice reported that the Petroleum Division issued a notification late Sunday night following recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), citing movement in the international market. The report said the revised rates applied immediately through February 2026 month-end; the notification itself was not available in the reviewed material.
| Fuel | Previous reported price | Increase | New reported price | Effective period stated |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Petrol | Rs 253.17 per litre | Rs 5 per litre | Rs 258.17 per litre | Immediately through February 2026 month-end |
| High-speed diesel (HSD) | Rs 268.38 per litre | Rs 7.32 per litre | Rs 275.70 per litre | Immediately through February 2026 month-end |
All four price figures and both increases are as reported by TechJuice in its February 16, 2026 report.
How this differed from the February 1 diesel revision
February had an earlier, separate adjustment: Business Recorder’s diesel-price topic page lists a February 1, 2026 report of an Rs 11.30 per litre diesel increase, with petrol unchanged. The February 16 report then described a new paired revision affecting both petrol and HSD. Specifying the date matters when referring to “February rates.”

| Revision date | Reported change | Petrol changed? |

What the increases could mean for drivers and transport
TechJuice describes petrol as primarily used by private vehicles, rickshaws, and two-wheelers, so its increase raises fuel costs for those users. HSD is used by trucks, buses, trains, tractors, tube-wells, and threshers, connecting diesel costs with freight, public transport, and agricultural operations.
The report provides no measured estimate of how much fares, food prices, or household expenses might change. The uses described indicate where higher fuel costs may matter, but do not establish a specific pass-through to consumers.
