The Gibbs Biski is a two-wheel amphibious motorcycle concept designed to travel on roads and water. Gibbs publishes a claimed top speed of 80 mph on land and 37 mph on water, but its official material labels the pictured vehicles prototypes not available for sale. Those figures are manufacturer specifications, not independently verified performance results.
What is the Gibbs Biski?
Gibbs describes the Biski as a two-wheel motorcycle that can operate on land and water. Its design uses rear-wheel drive on land, retractable suspension, and a custom dual-jet marine propulsion system for water travel. The company classifies it among its high-speed amphibian platforms.

That combination makes the Biski unusual: rather than carrying a separate boat or switching to a different vehicle, it is intended to transition between road and marine propulsion. The technical description and performance figures below come from Gibbs’s Biski specifications; they should be read as manufacturer claims, not as results from independent testing.
Gibbs Biski specifications
| Specification | Gibbs-published figure |
|---|---|
| Land top speed | 80 mph |
| Water top speed | 37 mph |
| Land-to-water transition | Under 5 seconds |
| Time to plane | Under 3 seconds |
| Engine | Two-cylinder petrol engine; maximum output 55 hp |
| Curb weight | 228 kg / 503 lb |
| Fuel capacity | 20 L |
| Length | 2,350 mm / 92.5 in |
| Width | 950 mm / 37.4 in, excluding mirrors |
| Wheelbase | 1,790 mm / 70.5 in |
| Marine propulsion | Gibbs custom dual-jet technology |
Gibbs’s technical page supplies these figures but does not establish an independent road or water test. The speeds, transition time, and time to plane therefore describe what the manufacturer publishes, not performance a buyer can treat as independently confirmed.

How does the Biski switch from road to water?
On land, Gibbs says the Biski is rear-wheel driven. For water, the design retracts its suspension and uses the custom dual-jet system for propulsion. Gibbs states that the transition takes under five seconds and that the vehicle can get on plane in under three seconds; both timings are manufacturer claims.
In practical terms, a fast transition is central to the concept: the vehicle needs to change from a road-going two-wheeler into a watercraft without a trailer or a separate vessel. The published material describes the mechanism and intended operation, but does not provide independent test conditions or results that would show how those timings vary with load, water conditions, or operator.

Gibbs’s Biski page says the pictured products are prototypes not available for sale. That disclaimer does not establish whether a production version might later be offered, and the reviewed official information does not confirm consumer ordering or current production status.
A trade article published on 23 October 2015 reported that no price had been set at that time; it is historical and does not establish a current price. Gibbs separately lists licensing and partnership opportunities that it considers case by case. That is a business inquiry route, not a consumer sales channel. Gibbs recommends personal watercraft (PWC) and all-terrain vehicle (ATV) training and safety courses for operators, and says to use appropriate safety gear. The company’s page also notes that demonstrations involved professional operators under controlled conditions. That context is important: the demonstrations do not establish that the prototype has been evaluated for ordinary consumer use.
- Consider suitable water-safety equipment, including a personal flotation device (PFD), and verify its suitability for the activity.
- Check the road and waterway rules that apply where the vehicle would be operated; requirements vary by jurisdiction.
- Do not infer consumer-use approval or ordinary-use performance from a controlled demonstration or a manufacturer specification.
Gibbs’s safety language is on the company-hosted Biski page. It does not specify a particular PFD, model of safety gear, or Biski-specific equipment kit.
What the Biski’s specifications do—and do not—tell you
The published figures provide a useful picture of the proposed package: a 55 hp two-cylinder petrol engine, 228 kg curb weight, and stated maximum speeds for land and water. They do not, by themselves, establish handling, range, durability, fuel economy, braking, seaworthiness, operating limits, or real-world transition performance. Those details are not established by the specifications cited here.
For now, the Biski is best understood as a technically distinctive amphibious motorcycle platform documented by its manufacturer, rather than as a confirmed production vehicle with independently validated performance or a known retail price. Gibbs’s company background is available on its company information page.
