Audi of America commissioned it for the car’s announcement and display at the 2011 New York Auto Show, and Designboom reported that a time-lapse documented its construction. The title alone does not identify the video, so this A7 is a well-documented match—not a confirmed identification of the exact clip.
What the giant Audi papercraft timelapse shows
Lesko’s project was a large, assembled paper replica rather than a small cut-out model. His project page says the A7 was four feet long and made from 750 unique parts spread across 285 sheets of paper. Lesko estimated the work at around 245 hours. Those figures describe this commissioned build, not a standard amount of time or material for making a paper car.
Designboom’s 2011 coverage gives the model’s overall size as 4 ft × 2 ft × 2 ft (1.2 m × 0.6 m × 0.6 m) and says a time-lapse documented its construction. Lesko’s page describes the car as four feet long; the two sources give different levels of dimensional detail.
Lesko lists Photoshop, Illustrator, Cinema 4D, Pepakura Designer, paper, a printer, a plotter and glue among the project’s tools. That list does not establish that every tool is essential for a papercraft build, and the project page should not be treated as a reusable giant A7 template.

Can you make an Audi papercraft model yourself?
Yes. Audi España’s official Monta tu Audi page offers downloadable cut-out models for the Audi quattro Rally, Audi e-tron and Audi R8. It invites makers to share finished models with #MontaTuAudi. The page does not provide comparative difficulty ratings or estimated build times.
For an independent printable Audi R8, Papelest lists a 1:24-scale model as medium difficulty, with an estimated assembly time of 2–3 hours. Those ratings and timings apply to that particular third-party model, not Audi’s downloadable templates or Lesko’s A7. Its guide recommends 200–250 gsm paper or cardstock, scissors or a craft knife, a ruler and a glue stick.
Basic assembly approach for the R8 guide
- Print the model at actual size, following the template’s instructions.
- Cut along solid lines and score along dashed lines.
- Glue the parts together in sequence, allowing joints to dry as you work.
A different, oversized Audi paper build is documented by Patowsky: a 1:5 Audi R8 4.2 FSI measuring 88 cm long, 40 cm wide and 25 cm high, built with paper, cardstock and films. It is a separate project, not the A7 timelapse.

| Project | Template or documentation | Scale or size | Difficulty and time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Audi quattro Rally | Official printable model listed by Audi España | Not stated on the official page | Not stated on the official page |
| Audi e-tron | Official printable model listed by Audi España | Not stated on the official page | Not stated on the official page |
| Audi R8 | Official printable model listed by Audi España; a separate third-party 1:24 template is also listed by Papelest | 1:24 for the Papelest template | Medium; estimated 2–3 hours for the Papelest template |
| Taras Lesko’s Audi A7 | Commissioned papercraft project documented by Lesko and Designboom | 4 ft × 2 ft × 2 ft (1.2 m × 0.6 m × 0.6 m), per Designboom | Around 245 hours, per Lesko; no comparable difficulty rating stated |
| Patowsky’s Audi R8 4.2 FSI | Documented 1:5 paper build | 88 cm × 40 cm × 25 cm | Not stated |
Choose one of Audi España’s printables for a downloadable cut-out model; consider the Papelest R8 if you want a third-party template with stated scale, difficulty and estimated time. The A7 and 1:5 R8 builds show what a much larger project can look like, but their documented dimensions and build figures are not instructions for reproducing either car.
