The move does not signal an end to German production: RobCo says manufacturing and assembly will continue in Germany, alongside US operations.
How did RobCo reach a $1 billion valuation?
RobCo said on October 5, 2026, that its valuation rose above $1 billion through a secondary share transaction in which employees sold shares to existing and new investors. The company characterized the increase as a doubling in nine months. This is a private-company valuation tied to a share transaction, not a public-market capitalization; the company has not disclosed a valuation methodology.
Several figures reported around the transaction describe different things and should not be conflated:
- $100 million: Reuters reported that RobCo raised this amount in a January 2026 capital raise.
- $40 million: Reuters said the Wall Street Journal reported this as the value of shares sold in the secondary transaction.
- Close to $200 million: Hölzl told Reuters, “With this round we’ve now raised close to $200 million in total.” This is his description of total fundraising, not the reported value of shares sold in the transaction.

Why is RobCo’s CEO moving to the US?
Hölzl said the United States is both larger in absolute market size and growing faster than Europe. In his Reuters interview, he said: “The (US) market is larger in terms of absolute size and it’s growing faster than Europe,” while also saying that about 70% of RobCo’s business was still in Europe. The distinction is between growth and current business mix: Europe remained the majority of business by his account, even as the US was the faster-growing market.
Is RobCo moving manufacturing out of Germany?
No such move was announced. RobCo says it will retain manufacturing and assembly in Germany, while assembling some products for US customers in Austin, Texas. It also reports customer operations in more than a dozen US states and a lab in San Francisco. The announced plan combines German production with US leadership and customer-proximity operations; it is not a stated wholesale relocation of manufacturing.

What is RobCo’s Alfie robot?
RobCo describes Alfie as an autonomous industrial robot intended for factory tasks that traditional automation has struggled to handle, including high-mix and unstructured work. The company says the system combines perception, reasoning and execution. Reuters described Alfie as a two-armed, self-learning robot and reported Hölzl saying several customers had installed a prototype.
RobCo has targeted a commercial launch for its first annual summit, RobCoN, in Munich on March 4, 2027. A planned launch date and reported prototype installations do not establish general availability or independently verified performance. The reviewed sources do not include detailed product specifications or independent performance testing.

What the announcement does—and does not—show
