FUBifixie was presented as a conventional-looking bicycle that folds sideways, bringing its front and rear wheels alongside each other while keeping the bike in one piece. A 2015 report said folding and unfolding took 8–10 seconds, but that timing was a reported claim, not an independent test. The project ran a Kickstarter campaign in 2016; the available records do not establish whether the bike is sold or supported today.
How the FUBifixie folding mechanism works
Contemporary coverage describes a quick-release beside the diagonal strut on the down tube. Releasing it allows the frame to fold sideways, leaving the wheels next to one another. The bicycle was described as remaining in one piece when folded, unlike the earlier FUBi design, which required removing the fork. New Atlas reported an 8–10 second fold and unfold time; that is the outlet’s claim, not a verified measurement.
The same report said the folded bike could be rolled on one or both wheels, depending on whether it was configured as a fixed gear or single-speed freewheel. It did not provide an independent comparison of ride quality, frame stiffness, safety, or durability.
What the 2016 project said about components and fit
The project’s FAQ, updated in February 2016, said each delivered bicycle would have front and rear brakes. It described a flip-flop rear hub and said a three-speed freewheel hub was available as a pledge option. Those are campaign-era specifications, not current manufacturer guidance.

- Tires: The FAQ said 700×25C / ISO 25-622 tires would certainly fit; it said 28-622 tires would likely clear.
- Weight limit: The FAQ stated a 130 kg (285 lb) limit for the folding bike.
- Frame and parts: Domus described a 4130 chrome-molybdenum steel frame and standard bicycle components apart from the frame, which could be changed or customized. That description is not a durability test.
For a featured configuration, New Atlas reported an 11 kg (24 lb) total weight, a Cr-Mo 4130 frame, Shimano 105 brakes, an SRAM S100 crankset, and 700×23C tires. These details belong to that 2015 report and should not be treated as a specification for every version.
U-lock use and what it does not establish
Domus said the folding frame could be secured around a pillar together with the front wheel using a U-lock. This establishes a described use for a bicycle U-lock, not that a lock was included or that every lock size will fit.

Campaign history and current availability
The Fubicom Kickstarter campaign ran from February 25 to March 26, 2016. Its campaign page records 140 backers and 567,608 SEK pledged against a 400,000 SEK goal. The result documents the campaign’s funding, not current manufacturing or retail availability.
New Atlas’s December 2015 report listed planned prices of US$450–500 for a complete bike and US$200–250 for a frame, and said a Kickstarter launch was planned for February. Those are historical planned prices, not current offers. The available information does not establish present-day inventory, spare-parts support, or warranty status.
