The yellow car in Hindi Drishyam is identified as a Hyundai Getz; in the Malayalam original, the corresponding clue car is a Maruti Zen. Across the two versions, their sequels and a trailer for Drishyam: The Conclusion, the cars range from plot clues to police-fleet background vehicles and newer family cars. The identifications below follow CarDekho’s vehicle guide; they are not confirmed by the film’s production team.
Which cars matter to the plot in the original Drishyam films?
The two original films use different yellow cars in similar investigative roles. Keeping the language versions straight is essential: Hindi Drishyam features the Getz, while Malayalam Drishyam features the Zen.
1. Hyundai Getz — Hindi Drishyam
CarDekho identifies the bright yellow Getz as Sam Deshmukh’s car. It is eventually found at a quarry and becomes a clue in the investigation. CarDekho’s vehicle guide is the source for this screen identification.
2. Maruti Zen — Malayalam Drishyam
The Malayalam original’s corresponding yellow clue car is identified as Varun Prabhakar’s Zen, also found at a quarry after he goes missing. CarDekho additionally says the same Zen appeared in Narasimham, Ravanaprabhu and Baba Kalyani, but that reuse is not independently confirmed by the available sources.

3. Mahindra Commander or Major — both versions
CarDekho’s naming is inconsistent: its introduction calls the vehicle a Mahindra Major, while its section heading and body call it a Commander. The article associates it with moving the remains in both films: Vijay uses one in Hindi Drishyam, and Georgekutty drives one while transporting Varun’s remains in the Malayalam sequel. Without frame-level confirmation, it is safest to retain both names rather than assign a definitive model.
4. BMW 5 Series (F10) — Hindi Drishyam
CarDekho identifies an F10-generation BMW 5 Series in the Cabo de Rama sequence, when Vijay meets Sam’s parents at a cliff overlooking the sea. The source’s section heading conflicts with its body text by calling this the Malayalam film’s version of the missing car; its body places the BMW in the Hindi film, so the identification here follows that explicit description rather than the heading.
5. Tata Sumo — Hindi Drishyam
The Sumo is described as part of the Goa Police fleet. Unlike the Getz and Zen, it is a background vehicle, not a car tied to the central missing-vehicle clue.
6. Mahindra Bolero — both versions
CarDekho reports Boleros in local police and investigation scenes in both versions, including sequences in which the Salgaonkar family is taken for questioning. Its role is institutional background rather than a distinctive clue car.

The sequels’ reported family-car choices differ by language version, so the models should not be collapsed into a single continuity.
7. Ford EcoSport — Malayalam Drishyam 2
Georgekutty is shown with a Ford EcoSport in the Malayalam sequel, replacing the old jeep associated with him earlier. CarDekho reads that change as a reflection of his altered circumstances.

8. Kia Seltos — Hindi Drishyam 2
In Hindi Drishyam 2, CarDekho identifies a first-generation Kia Seltos as Vijay Salgaonkar’s family car. It serves as the Hindi counterpart to Georgekutty’s EcoSport in the Malayalam sequel.

9. Mahindra Thar Roxx — trailer appearance
CarDekho reports that a new police character played by Jaideep Ahlawat is seen being driven in a Thar Roxx in the Drishyam: The Conclusion trailer. This is a trailer-based observation, not confirmation of the vehicle’s role in the released film.
10. Tata Harrier Dark Edition — Vijay’s reported new car
CarDekho identifies a Tata Harrier Dark Edition as Vijay Salgaonkar’s new personal car in Drishyam: The Conclusion. The source describes its all-black exterior and black-themed cabin; the model identification comes from that vehicle guide.

How to read the list
The yellow Getz and Zen are the most direct plot-linked cars, each belonging to a different original. The Sumo and Bolero are police or investigation-scene vehicles; the EcoSport and Seltos are sequel family cars. The final two entries have different levels of certainty: the Thar Roxx identification is specifically a trailer observation, while the Harrier is reported as Vijay’s car in the third film.
The underlying film context is clear for the Malayalam original: Aashirvad Cinemas lists Drishyam as a family, thriller, drama and crime film dated December 19, 2013, directed and written by Jeethu Joseph, produced by Antony Perumbavoor, and starring Mohanlal. Its page does not list vehicles, so it does not independently confirm these car identifications.
