William Shatner’s best-documented off-screen motoring stories span an early Corvette Sting Ray, a memorable cross-country trip in a Porsche Panamera, and a proposed three-wheeled motorcycle project. They come from a MotorTrend interview in which Shatner recalled past vehicles and experiences—not a verified inventory of what he owns today.

What cars did William Shatner own?

In a MotorTrend Celebrity Drive interview, Shatner talked about cars from different periods of his life. His account is useful as a first-person history, but it does not independently confirm ownership or establish a complete collection. The interview is also dated, so it cannot show what remains in his garage now.

Vehicle or experience What Shatner described What the account establishes
Early cars Cars from his less affluent early years Shatner’s recollections of his early driving life
Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray A purchase soon after Star Trek began Shatner’s recollection of buying the car around 1966 or 1967
Porsche Panamera A cross-country drive after buying the car in Philadelphia A specific road-trip story, not proof of present ownership
Rivet A proposed three-wheeled motorcycle project with American Wrench Discussion of the concept at interview time, not evidence of current production or availability

Early cars: driving on a limited budget

Shatner’s story begins before the Corvette, with less glamorous cars and the financial constraints of his early driving years. He summed up his enthusiasm with a joke: “I was car happy. I was car foolish.” The line captures a fondness for cars, but his interview does not provide a full model-by-model list of those early vehicles.

The Corvette Sting Ray he recalled buying after Star Trek began

Shatner told MotorTrend, “I got that Corvette immediately. It was in 1966 or 1967, somewhere around there.” That approximate date is his recollection, not a precise purchase record. He also recalled adding two small seats on the rear shelf so his daughters could ride along.

Car Dealer Record Book, Hardcover Sales and Inventory Log Book, 975 Vehicle Records
  • Official Record Book: This hardcover log book is designed to record the purchase, sale, or exchange of new and used motor vehicles.
  • Comprehensive Tracking: With 975 vehicle record entries, it allows for meticulous documentation of automotive transactions.
  • Durable Construction: The sturdy hardcover binding ensures long-lasting use and protection of important records.

The anecdote ties the Corvette to the early years of his television career and to family life. It should not be read as independent verification of the car’s exact model year, configuration, or present whereabouts.

The Porsche Panamera and a cross-country drive

In the same interview, Shatner described buying a Porsche Panamera in Philadelphia and driving it across the country, including a trip to pick up his wife. He remembered the journey as comfortable and memorable. The account is about that road trip; it does not establish that he still owns the Panamera.

The Rivet: a motorcycle idea with car-like features

Shatner also discussed the Rivet, a proposed three-wheeled motorcycle developed with American Wrench. He described wanting a machine with greater stability, a V-8 engine, weather protection, storage, and car-like steering and suspension. An American Wrench representative characterized the concept as combining motorcycle excitement with some of a car’s comfort and security.

Those comments describe the project as it was discussed in the interview. They do not confirm that a production model reached buyers, that it is available now, or what ultimately happened to the project.

How much does this tell us about Shatner’s current collection?

Not enough to make a reliable current inventory. The MotorTrend interview is firsthand evidence of what Shatner remembered owning or driving at the time of the conversation; it does not document the later disposition of each vehicle. A separate title-matching feature, Gadget Review’s “From Starship to Street – A Look at Shatner’s Wheels”, is not a substitute for vehicle-specific records for broader collection, specification, or valuation claims.

The most accurate way to describe these vehicles is therefore to keep the verbs tied to the evidence: Shatner recalled buying the Corvette, described a Panamera road trip, and discussed a Rivet concept. That makes for a revealing snapshot of his automotive interests without claiming to know what he drives today.
