The company lists a top speed of 20 mph (32 km/h) and a range of 10 miles (16 km), but those are manufacturer specifications—not independently verified test results. As of October 8, 2026, Frigid Dynamics advertised a $2,999 Batch 1 preorder and said shipments were planned for November 2026.
What are the motorized-tread skis?
The E-XC is a pair of skis designed around electric propulsion, rather than a small motor accessory that clips onto ordinary skis. Frigid Dynamics describes the skis, batteries, wiring, drivetrain and suspension as an integrated system. The product was called Vipera during its 2025 campaign; E-XC is the current name on the manufacturer’s product materials.
In New Atlas’s February 2025 description of Vipera, a lithium-ion battery sat near the front of each ski and powered a rear motor. Each motor drove a lugged tread that extended behind the ski. A four-bar linkage and coil-over shock were intended to keep the tread in contact with uneven snow. A wireless remote in one pole handle controlled acceleration, braking and drive modes, and showed battery level. That earlier account described the mechanics and controls; the current product page does not restate every detail. (New Atlas, February 2025; Frigid Dynamics E-XC product page)
How fast do electric skis go, and what is their range?
Frigid Dynamics’ 2026 product specifications list a top speed of 20 mph (32 km/h), a range of 10 miles (16 km), 25 Nm of torque and 3,000 W of motor power. The company lists charging time as 3.5 hours. These are vendor-published figures; the available sources do not establish results from independent or controlled testing, and they do not specify conditions for achieving the stated range or speed. Where can you ride electric skis?
Frigid Dynamics says the E-XC is optimized for maintained cross-country tracks and trails, snowmobile trails, e-bike paths, rolling terrain and forest paths. Its product materials also name snow-covered fields, golf courses and frozen lakes. Those are the manufacturer’s descriptions of intended terrain, not confirmation that a particular trail, resort or public area permits motorized ski equipment. Check local land-manager rules and trail conditions before riding.

How does E-XC compare with E-Skimo?
New Atlas described E-Skimo as a similar concept with a tread running along the underside of each ski, and reported that it was being marketed to ski manufacturers. Frigid Dynamics presents E-XC as a complete, integrated ski system. The available information is not enough for a broad performance or value ranking: it does not provide comparable current specifications, package contents, pricing and availability for both systems. (New Atlas, February 2025; Frigid Dynamics E-XC product page)
Who makes electric skis?
Frigid Dynamics makes and sells the E-XC, formerly known as Vipera. Its current product and reservation pages describe a direct preorder offer. The available sources do not establish customer delivery history or independent performance testing, so prospective buyers should distinguish the company’s specifications and planned shipping schedule from verified real-world results.
