Forza Horizon 6 is set in Japan. Playground Games first confirmed the setting and a 2026 release window in September 2025; the game then launched worldwide on Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 19, 2026. A PlayStation 5 version is planned for later in 2026, but its release date has not been announced in the official update cited here.
Is Forza Horizon 6 set in Japan?
Yes. Playground Games announced Japan as the setting during the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2025 broadcast on September 25, 2025. The studio described the world as the series’ densest and most vertical map. Its reveal names routes inspired by the C1 loop and Gingko Avenue, along with mountain roads at Mt. Haruna and Bandai Azuma. See the official map reveal.
The setting also shapes the game’s seasons and ambient details. Xbox Wire describes seasonal changes that affect more than the scenery, including sounds such as station chimes and summer wind bells. Cultural consultant Kyoko Yamashita said, “The team has also been able to build a system where seasonal changes truly inform the world – how spring, summer, autumn, and winter subtly shift tone, activity, and sound,” Xbox Wire’s feature on the game.
When did Forza Horizon 6 come out?
The original announcement gave the game a 2026 window. Playground Games later set May 19, 2026 as the launch date for Xbox Series X|S and PC. Premium Edition owners received early access beginning May 15, 2026. In an update published May 22, the studio said the game was available worldwide on Xbox Series X|S and PC. What is included in the game?
Xbox Wire lists over 550 real-world cars as a game feature. That is the official product description’s car count, not a sales or player statistic. Playground Games also says steering animations reach up to 540 degrees; this describes the in-game steering animation detail and does not establish compatibility with any particular physical wheel. Xbox Wire’s game overview and the official features page provide those details.
Art Director Don Arceta explained the care behind the location choice: “While fans have been asking for this location for a long time, it was important to us to acknowledge the love and reverence we have for Japan and its unique culture.” The full Xbox Wire interview discusses the team’s approach to the setting.
