Former Lucid Motors senior vice president of product and chief engineer Eric Bach sued Lucid Group Inc. in December 2025, alleging discrimination, retaliation and wrongful termination. Lucid rejected his claims. The federal case was later stayed while the parties pursued arbitration; the latest reports available here do not establish an arbitration outcome or settlement.
Why Eric Bach says he sued Lucid
In a complaint filed December 8, 2025, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, Bach alleged discrimination and retaliation under 42 U.S.C. § 1981 and wrongful termination in violation of public policy. The complaint, Bach v. Lucid Group Inc., Case No. 3:25-cv-10499, requests damages and a jury trial. Those are claims and requests for relief—not findings that Lucid violated the law. Read the complaint.
Bach alleges he joined Lucid in 2015 and rose to senior vice president of product and chief engineer, with responsibility for hardware engineering, product management and corporate planning. According to the complaint, a workplace-culture investigation began in late 2024, and Bach lost significant responsibilities in early 2025, including oversight of powertrain work.
The central dispute in Bach’s account concerns an alleged remark by HR executive Rachel Rivera and what followed. Bach alleges Rivera referred to him as a “German Nazi,” that Lucid confirmed she had made the remark, and that he complained about it. He says he learned of the remark in mid-2025 and encouraged a colleague to report it. TechCrunch also reported Bach’s claim that he made a separate internal complaint about another vice president. Bach alleges that his responsibilities were reduced, Lucid tried to force him to resign, and the company fired him on November 5, 2025. The complaint dates an alleged effort to force his resignation to October 22 and says his counsel protested discrimination and retaliation on October 24. Lucid’s public announcement on November 5 described him as having “departed,” according to TechCrunch. These descriptions reflect the parties’ differing accounts, not a court’s determination of what happened.
What Lucid said
Lucid told TechCrunch: “In our opinion, Mr. Bach’s legal claims are absurd. We are confident that the facts revealed through the course of litigation will establish the legitimate issues leading to Mr. Bach’s termination.” That is the company’s stated position; it is not a court finding about the reason for Bach’s termination. On April 15, 2026, Judge Trina L. Thompson granted Lucid’s motion to compel arbitration and stayed the federal court proceedings, according to LegalClarity. A stay pauses the court case while the dispute proceeds in arbitration; it does not decide the underlying claims. LegalClarity’s case update.
LegalClarity reported that Bach filed a status report on May 21, 2026, concerning the arbitration’s schedule and progress. TechCrunch described the federal case as stayed pending arbitration on June 9, and LegalClarity’s July 2 report likewise described the dispute as in arbitration.
