The first report did not name the buyer; a Hon Hai filing later identified Crescent Dune LLC as the transaction counterparty, and Bloomberg subsequently reported SoftBank Group as the buyer. The available reports do not establish the full relationship between the two names.
Who bought the former Lordstown plant?
The answer became clearer after the initial August 4, 2025 report. That report said Foxconn had sold the plant to an unnamed “existing business partner.” Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Foxconn’s parent, named Crescent Dune LLC as the counterparty in its August 4 disclosure. On August 8, Bloomberg reported that SoftBank Group Corp. was the buyer, citing people familiar with the matter. The available sources do not explain the legal relationship between Crescent Dune LLC and SoftBank, so they should not be treated as interchangeable names.
198 Automobile News’ August 4 report credited Reuters for the initial sale account. Hon Hai’s August 4 disclosure, reproduced by TradingView/Refinitiv, supplies the named transaction counterparty and itemized amounts. Bloomberg’s August 8 report identified SoftBank as buyer.
How much did the sale cost?
The disclosed transactions add up to $375 million. Hon Hai’s filing separated the real property from two machinery-and-equipment transactions:

What is the plant expected to be used for?
Bloomberg connected the purchase to SoftBank’s plans for AI data-center infrastructure, including the Stargate project. That is a reported intended use, not confirmation that the Lordstown facility has been converted, is producing equipment, or is operating at any particular capacity. The cited reports do not establish its current production, staffing, or operating status.

The plant is the former GM Lordstown vehicle assembly facility. The August 4 report says GM’s factory became unallocated in 2019 and was later acquired by Lordstown Motors, then by Foxconn in 2022. The 2025 transaction was another change in ownership after those earlier transitions.
