Two separate Ford recall campaigns announced in March 2026 cover a combined 1,739,260 potentially involved vehicles, a total calculated by adding the populations in NHTSA recalls 26V124 and 26V123. They affect certain Broncos and Edges, and certain Escapes, Corsairs, Explorers and Aviators—but for different rear-camera failures. A model year alone does not confirm that a vehicle is included; check its VIN for eligibility and repair status.
Which Ford and Lincoln SUVs are covered?
The March 3, 2026 filings describe two campaigns, not one common defect. Their listed populations are potentially involved vehicles, not a count of confirmed camera failures.

The combined figure is 1,739,260 potentially involved vehicles—about 1.7 million—not an NHTSA-published total. Ford estimated that 100% of the potentially involved population had the defect in each filing; that estimate does not mean every listed vehicle has experienced a camera failure.
How the two camera failures differ
26V124: Bronco and Edge image may go blank
Ford’s filing describes a temporary thermal shutdown of the APIM, the module involved in the infotainment system. If it shuts down while the vehicle is in reverse, the rearview-camera image can be disabled. Ford said the APIM can reach 105°C under some operating conditions; that is a temperature described in the filing, not a claim that every affected vehicle reaches it. A blank infotainment screen may signal the issue.

NHTSA’s filing explains the safety concern: “A rear-view camera that does not display an image while in reverse gear can reduce the driver’s view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.”
26V123: Escape, Corsair, Explorer and Aviator image may invert
This campaign concerns certain center-stack displays made by Japan Display Inc. and equipped with SYNC 3. Ford’s report identifies an Infineon touch integrated circuit in the display. After an ignition cycle, a pulse on the display data bus can rewrite a microcontroller register and invert the graphics, including the rearview image and camera guidelines. Ford said the display may recover after a restart, but its filing reported no warning that can occur.

The filing says the inverted image may fail Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 111 requirements for rear-view field of view and default view. It quotes the standard: “The rear visibility system must default to the rearview image meeting the requirements of S5.5.1 and S5.5.2 at the beginning of each backing event regardless of any modifications to the field of view the driver has previously selected.”
Ford reported that, as of February 19, 2026, it knew of 809 potentially related warranty claims and one vehicle owner questionnaire, and knew of no related accident or injury reports. Those are figures from the company’s filing as of that date, not a current tally. Ford also reported that its January 2026 testing reproduced the issue once during 20,000 automated ignition cycles. That test result is not an estimate of how often the issue will occur in everyday driving.

Does the Ford rear-camera recall repair cost anything?
Both March filings describe free manufacturer software remedies. They do not confirm whether both repairs are available now. As of October 8, 2026, the available information here does not establish current remedy availability, so owners should confirm the status for their specific vehicle with Ford or a Ford or Lincoln dealer.
How to check whether your SUV is included
- Find your vehicle identification number (VIN), usually visible at the lower corner of the windshield or on vehicle registration and insurance documents.
- Enter the VIN in NHTSA’s recall lookup to check for unrepaired recalls.
- If a recall appears, contact a Ford or Lincoln dealer to confirm applicability and arrange the repair.
- If the lookup shows no open recall but you think your vehicle may be affected, contact Ford or a dealer and ask them to check its vehicle-specific records.
Ford’s filings caution that affected vehicles were not produced in VIN order and that inclusion depends on vehicle-specific hardware or configuration data. NHTSA also says its VIN lookup can omit some recently announced campaigns while affected VINs are still being added. A model-year list—or a search result that does not yet show a campaign—is not a substitute for checking with the manufacturer or dealer.

What owners should not substitute for a recall repair
The filings identify manufacturer software actions as the remedy path. Buying a replacement camera, accessory or diagnostic tool is not a substitute for having Ford or a Ford or Lincoln dealer check and complete any applicable recall repair.
