Trail Turn Assist uses braking to help the Bronco make a tighter turn off-road; CrabWalk steers the HUMMER EV’s rear wheels in the same direction as its fronts so it can move diagonally at low speed.
What Ford’s Trail Turn Assist does
Trail Turn Assist reduces the Bronco’s turning radius on off-road surfaces by braking an inside rear wheel. That can help the driver make a tight turn in one maneuver where a three-point turn might otherwise be needed, according to the 2026 Ford Bronco Owner’s Manual.
It is a tighter-turn aid, not a system that steers the Bronco diagonally. The HUMMER EV’s CrabWalk is the feature designed for diagonal movement.

Ford’s 2026 specifications are available in its 2026 Bronco technical specifications. Ford notes equipment can vary by market and trim, so confirm the build sheet for a particular vehicle.

When the features are useful
Use Trail Turn Assist for a tight off-road corner
Trail Turn Assist is aimed at reducing the space the Bronco needs to turn on an off-road surface. It may help when a narrow trail or obstacle leaves little room to swing around, provided the Bronco is in 4H or 4L and the rear differential is not locked.
Use CrabWalk for diagonal repositioning
CrabWalk addresses a different challenge: moving the HUMMER EV diagonally at low speed. GMC describes the system as turning the rear wheels in the same direction as the front wheels; see its HUMMER EV feature information. GMC’s four-wheel-steer support page says that driving above 25 mph for more than 10 seconds while in CrabWalk returns 4-Wheel Steer to Automatic Mode. That support-page threshold is separate from the 2026 owner’s manual statement that CrabWalk operation is below 20 mph; they describe different guidance and should not be treated as one universal cutoff.

King Crab is a separate HUMMER EV mode
King Crab should not be confused with CrabWalk. GMC describes King Crab as turning the rear wheels more quickly than the front wheels. GM announced on May 15, 2025, that King Crab would be standard on 2026 HUMMER EV 2X and 3X Pickup and SUV trims, with an over-the-air update for 2022–2025 models expected later in 2025. The announcement establishes the expected rollout, not whether every eligible vehicle has received the update; see GM’s King Crab announcement.
