Ford’s 2025 U.S. sales increased, with trucks, vans and hybrids doing most of the work. Battery-electric vehicles added volume but remained concentrated in three nameplates, helping explain why Ford shifted investment away from some larger EV programs while expanding its hybrid, commercial and extended-range strategy.
Ford’s U.S. sales result in 2025
Ford Motor Company reported 2,204,124 U.S. vehicle sales for 2025, a 6.0% increase from 2024. Its U.S. market share reached 13.2%, according to Ford’s 2026 annual U.S. sales report.

The gain came from a broad lineup rather than a single breakout car. High-volume pickups and vans supplied the scale, while hybrids grew faster than battery-electric vehicles.

Ford sold 1,268,749 trucks and vans in the United States during 2025. The F-Series remained the central engine of that result, but several other nameplates also reached significant volumes.

Did Ford hybrids outsell its EVs?
Yes. Ford’s 2025 U.S. results show a substantially larger hybrid business than battery-electric business. The hybrid figure below includes hybrids and plug-in hybrids, while the EV figure refers to battery-electric vehicles.

On the reported totals, hybrids and plug-in hybrids led battery-electric vehicles by 143,959 vehicles, selling about 2.7 times as many. That works out to approximately 10.3% of Ford’s total U.S. sales for the hybrid/PHEV group and 3.8% for battery-electric vehicles.

Ford’s hybrids were available in practical, high-volume trucks such as the F-150 and Maverick, whereas its 2025 battery-electric sales were concentrated in only three nameplates. The EV result therefore describes a smaller scale and narrower lineup, not a collapse in every electric model: Mach-E volume held roughly at its prior record.

Why Ford changed course on some larger EVs
In December 2025, Ford said lower-than-expected demand, high costs and regulatory changes had weakened the business case for select larger electric vehicles. The company announced about $19.5 billion in special items, mostly recorded in the fourth quarter of 2025, tied primarily to electrification-related actions.

Ford president and CEO Jim Farley described the move as “a customer-driven shift to create a stronger, more resilient and more profitable Ford.” The wording matters: Ford was narrowing or revising selected larger-EV programs, not abandoning battery-electric technology across the company.
How a record EV quarter fits the annual picture
Ford’s third-quarter 2025 results illustrate why the annual figures need context. Electrified vehicles reached a quarterly record of 85,789, up 19.8%, including 55,177 hybrids and 30,612 battery-electric vehicles.

A record quarter can coexist with a difficult long-term EV business. Sales momentum measures customer deliveries; Ford’s strategic decision also reflects vehicle costs, expected demand for larger models, regulatory conditions and the profitability required to sustain those programs. The annual data shows hybrids scaling more broadly, while the EV portfolio remained smaller and concentrated.
What Ford’s 2025 result means
Ford entered 2026 with a sales base strengthened by F-Series pickups, commercial vans, SUVs and hybrids. Its electric transition is continuing, but on a more selective path: products with stronger demand or commercial potential remain central, while expensive larger EV projects face tighter economic scrutiny. For buyers, that means Ford’s near-term electrification strategy is likely to offer more hybrid and extended-range choices alongside a narrower set of battery-electric vehicles.
