If you want a new vehicle with V-6 power, the strongest choices are now concentrated in pickups, three-row SUVs and performance-oriented crossovers rather than traditional sedans. The Ford F-150 has the highest listed tow rating here at 13,500 pounds, the Toyota Sequoia leads SUVs at 9,500 pounds, and the Nissan Frontier is unusual for making a 310-hp V-6 standard.
This comparison covers U.S.-market vehicles listed for the 2025, 2026 or 2027 model years, depending on the manufacturer page. Model-year rollovers, regional inventory and trim availability can change, so confirm the exact configuration with a dealer before ordering.

How to choose among today’s V-6 vehicles
Start with the job, not the cylinder count
A pickup is the logical choice for a trailer, slide-in load or frequent hauling. A three-row SUV gives you enclosed cargo space and passenger seating but generally less bed flexibility. A premium SUV such as the MDX adds a sharper performance option, while the Grand Cherokee family emphasizes available four-wheel-drive-oriented equipment.

Compare the type of V-6
- Naturally aspirated: The Pilot and standard MDX use non-turbo V-6 engines, producing linear response without a turbocharger.
- Twin-turbo: Tundra, Sequoia, Explorer and some F-150 engines use turbocharging to deliver strong low-speed torque.
- Hybrid V-6: Tundra i-FORCE MAX, Sequoia i-FORCE MAX and F-150 PowerBoost combine a V-6 with electric assistance. Their outputs and towing ratings apply to specific configurations.
Check the exact configuration
Towing capacity depends on cab, bed, drivetrain, axle ratio, cooling equipment and package selection. A vehicle’s maximum number is not automatically the rating of every trim. Verify the vehicle’s door-label and factory towing guide for the trailer you intend to pull.
Ford F-150: the V-6 towing leader
Why it stands out
The 2026 F-150 offers several V-6 routes: a 2.7L EcoBoost, a 3.5L EcoBoost and a 3.5L PowerBoost hybrid. The PowerBoost is listed at 430 hp and 578 lb-ft, and the F-150 line reaches a maximum listed tow rating of 13,500 pounds—the highest figure in this group.
Best fit
Choose the F-150 when trailer capacity, bed length choices and work-oriented configuration are more important than SUV-style passenger access. Because output and tow ratings vary by configuration, match the engine, cab, bed and package before comparing prices.
Toyota Tundra: full-size power with a hybrid option
Powertrains
The 2026 Tundra’s twin-turbo V-6 is rated at 389 hp and 479 lb-ft. The i-FORCE MAX hybrid twin-turbo V-6 raises those figures to 437 hp and 583 lb-ft. Toyota lists up to 12,000 pounds of towing.

Choose the standard MDX for premium three-row transportation with naturally aspirated V-6 power. The Type S is the targeted choice when stronger output, turbocharged torque and performance-focused hardware matter more than a simple family specification. Acura’s cited material does not state a towing maximum for these configurations.
Jeep Grand Cherokee: two-row V-6 utility
Engine availability
Mopar lists a 3.6L V-6 gas engine across numerous 2025 Grand Cherokee trims. The 4xe versions use a separate four-cylinder plug-in-hybrid powertrain, so they should not be treated as V-6 models.
Best fit
The Grand Cherokee is the two-row choice for shoppers who want Jeep’s SUV format and a listed V-6 without moving to the larger Grand Cherokee L. Trim-specific four-wheel-drive and off-road equipment should be evaluated separately from engine choice.
Jeep Grand Cherokee L: three rows with a V-6
Engine and layout
Mopar lists the 3.6L V-6 gas engine on multiple 2025 Grand Cherokee L trims. The L adds a three-row body to the Grand Cherokee family.
Best fit
Select the Grand Cherokee L when three-row capacity and Jeep utility are priorities. The cited listing does not establish one universal tow number for every trim, so use the exact vehicle’s factory rating when planning a trailer.
Quick Recap
Buying checklist for a new V-6 vehicle
- Define the load: Record trailer weight, tongue weight, passengers and cargo rather than relying only on a brochure maximum.
- Match the configuration: Verify engine, drivetrain, axle, cooling package, hitch equipment, cab or seating layout and tire specification.
- Confirm space needs: Compare bed length and tie-down features for pickups; compare third-row access, cargo volume and seat-folding layouts for SUVs.
- Check the model year: The list spans 2025, 2026 and a current 2027 Explorer listing. Ask whether the vehicle on the lot is the same model year and powertrain described here.
- Verify local availability: Regional inventory, trim names and option packaging can differ. Obtain a written equipment list and the vehicle-specific tow rating before signing.
