Model year alone does not confirm whether a vehicle is included: check its VIN for an open recall and ask a Ford or Lincoln dealer about the free repair.

NHTSA identifies the campaign as 25V-048. Ford’s notices describe specific production windows and plants, so the model-year list is only a starting point—not proof that every vehicle in those years is affected.

The records published different potential-unit counts at different times: NHTSA’s February 5, 2025 acknowledgment listed 72,624 units; Ford’s February 17, 2025 supplement reported an expanded U.S. affected population of 91,334. What can go wrong with the rear camera
When the vehicle is in reverse, its rearview video may appear intermittently, fail to appear, or have poor image quality described by Ford as “Blurry, Foggy, Hazy.” A missing or distorted image can reduce the driver’s view of people or objects behind the vehicle and increase crash risk.

Ford’s February 3, 2025 dealer notice stated: “A rearview camera that intermittently displays or displays a poor image quality while in reverse can reduce or distort the driver’s view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.”
Ford’s recall filing said the specific root cause had not been determined at the time it was submitted. Ford said it believed the main causal factor was within the specific camera, but its review and inspections had not identified a specific cause. How to check whether your vehicle has an open recall
- Find your vehicle identification number (VIN), typically shown on the driver-side dashboard near the windshield and on vehicle registration or insurance documents.
- Enter the VIN in NHTSA’s recall lookup. The tool reports unrepaired recalls associated with that VIN.
- If a recall appears, contact a Ford or Lincoln dealer to confirm the vehicle’s repair status and whether the remedy is available. Ford’s notices say affected vehicles are identified through its OASIS and field-service-action VIN lists.
- After service, ask the dealer to confirm that the recall repair has been recorded as complete. If the lookup and dealer information differ, ask the dealer or NHTSA for help resolving the vehicle-specific status.
A model-year match does not establish that a particular vehicle is covered, and a recall campaign listing alone does not show whether that vehicle’s repair remains open.
What the free repair involves
Ford’s Part 573 filing specifies that dealers will replace the rearview camera at no charge. For Corsair vehicles, the remedy also includes a wiring-harness update. The filing anticipated remedy availability on December 15, 2025; that was a forecast, not confirmation that every dealer has parts or that a specific vehicle has been repaired. Ford’s February 2025 owner notice said owners would be notified when the remedy became available and should arrange dealer service. It also said Ford had not instructed owners to stop driving under this recall. Because availability and instructions can change, check the current status for your VIN with a dealer or NHTSA. Should you replace the camera yourself?
No. The specified recall remedy is free dealer service, and the filing includes an additional harness update for Corsair vehicles. Do not buy an aftermarket camera as a substitute for the recall repair: the evidence does not establish that an aftermarket part is an approved remedy or fits every listed vehicle. Ask the dealer to confirm fitment and the recall repair for your VIN.

Is it safe to back up before the repair?
The recall identifies a visibility and crash risk, but Ford’s February 2025 owner notice did not direct owners to stop driving. If your camera image is absent or unclear, do not rely on it: check behind the vehicle directly and use mirrors and other available visibility aids. Arrange the recall repair and follow any current vehicle-specific instructions from Ford, Lincoln or NHTSA.
