Raptor: Born in Baja is a 2009 documentary about the development of the 2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor and its connection to the 2008 Baja 1000. Its producer, BCII Production, describes it as a joint production with Ford Motor Company that aired on the SPEED Network. The film’s focus is the original Raptor program—not the later trucks that now share the Raptor name.
What is Raptor: Born in Baja about?
BCII Production’s description presents the documentary as a look at designing and building the 2010 F-150 SVT Raptor, alongside the truck’s racing in the 2008 Baja 1000. That places the film at the start of the F-150 Raptor story: it connects a production-truck development program with a demanding off-road race.
The producer identifies the film as a 2009 joint production with Ford Motor Company and says it aired on the SPEED Network. These details come from the producer’s listing; the available description does not establish additional production credits or a complete race record. BCII Production’s YouTube listing
When did Ford’s Raptor story begin in Baja?
Ford’s account dates the beginning to 2008, when it entered a prototype F-150 in the Baja 1000. That is Ford’s framing of the program’s origin, rather than an independently established history. The documentary followed in 2009 and covers the development of the 2010 production F-150 SVT Raptor, so its subject period should not be conflated with later Baja campaigns. How does Ford say Baja racing influenced the production Raptor?
Ford says its Baja experience informs how it develops production trucks, including durability testing, suspension tuning, and cooling systems. Those are the company’s stated links between racing and road-going Raptor engineering; the available account does not quantify the effect of each practice on the 2010 truck or independently assess the resulting vehicle.
Ford Racing Global Director Mark Rushbrook summarized the company’s view in 2025: “Baja is where Raptor was born, and it’s where we continue to sharpen its edge.” The quote refers to Ford’s ongoing program, not solely to the 2008 race or the documentary. Ford Racing, November 13, 2025

How is the original Raptor different from later Raptor models?
The film centers on the F-150 SVT Raptor of the 2010 model year. Ford’s later Raptor family includes several trucks with different sizes and roles; the name alone does not make them part of the documentary’s story.
| Vehicle or campaign | What the available account establishes | Connection to the film |
|---|---|---|
| 2010 F-150 SVT Raptor | The documentary’s development subject; Ford’s account traces the Raptor story to a prototype F-150 entered in the 2008 Baja 1000. | Central subject. |
| F-150 Raptor R | A later V8-powered Raptor variant, as described by Ford. | Not the film’s 2010 truck. |
| Ranger Raptor | A smaller Raptor model, as described by Ford. | A later member of the family. |
| Bronco Raptor | A later Raptor model that Ford included in its 2025 Baja campaign. | Not part of the original documentary’s subject period. |
Ford described the F-150 Raptor, F-150 Raptor R, Ranger Raptor, and Bronco Raptor lining up together in its 2025 Baja campaign. This later family lineup illustrates how the name expanded; it should not be read as a description of the original 2008 race or the film. Ford’s account does not provide a neutral, complete specification comparison among these models.

What do Ford’s 2025 Baja figures describe?
Ford Racing reported that its 2025 campaign involved 12 PreRunner Raptors and four race trucks, covering more than 20,000 miles collectively. Ford added that including chase trucks would likely take the total above 30,000 miles. Those are campaign figures for 2025, not mileage or vehicle counts for the 2008 Baja 1000. In the same article, veteran Ford driver and Off-Road Hall of Famer Brad Lovell said: “You don’t come to Baja to prove something to other people,” and “You come to prove something to yourself.” The remarks express a driver’s perspective on the challenge; they are not a race result or an independent technical finding.
