Ford Racing’s January 2026 “production road car” reveal was the Mustang Dark Horse SC, a high-performance production Mustang unveiled during Ford’s season launch in Detroit. Ford announced the model on January 14, ahead of the January 15 event, and later listed it at 795 horsepower and 660 lb.-ft. of torque. Those are Ford-published specifications, not independent test results.
What Ford revealed
In a November 30, 2025 preview, Ford Racing Global Director Mark Rushbrook said the 2026 season launch would take place at Michigan Central Station in Detroit on January 15, with a worldwide sneak peek at an all-new Ford Racing production road car. Ford identified that car as the Mustang Dark Horse SC in its January 14 announcement, and its history page records the model as unveiled during the season launch.
Ford describes the Dark Horse SC as a production Mustang developed with lessons from the Mustang GT3 race car and technology from the Mustang GTD. It is a road car, not the GT3 race car itself. Ford positions it above the standard Mustang Dark Horse in power, torque and performance equipment, while keeping it distinct from the more exclusive Mustang GTD.
Powertrain and equipment
Ford announced a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Its stated development changes span the engine, gearbox, aerodynamics, cooling, brakes, suspension, steering and tires. Ford’s April 23, 2026 order announcement specified output of 795 horsepower and 660 lb.-ft. of torque.

Ford says the package reduces weight by about 150 pounds and that a Track Pack-equipped car produces 620 pounds of rear downforce at 180 mph. Both are manufacturer-reported figures, not independently verified measurements in the cited material.
Orders and delivery timing
Ford said customer orders opened in April 2026 and that initial deliveries were scheduled to begin in summer 2026. That was the schedule announced by Ford; it does not establish that every delivery took place. The cited information does not establish current pricing, dealer stock or ordering status, so buyers should confirm those details with Ford or a dealer.

How Ford connects the road car to racing
Ford’s stated case for the Dark Horse SC is the transfer of development work between its racing and road-car programs. In the January announcement, Mark Rushbrook, Ford Racing global director, said: “Since we introduced Dark Horse in ’22 and Mustang GTD in ’23, we’ve established Mustang as a performance brand that can take on the world’s best. Mustang Dark Horse SC is the next chapter, drawing on lessons from Mustang GT3 and technology and learnings from Mustang GTD. It demonstrates exactly how Ford Racing is bringing our race and road operations together.” This is Ford’s executive describing the company’s approach, not an independent assessment of the car.
