Which Ford trucks are included?
NHTSA’s August 26, 2025 notice identifies certain 2025 Ford F-150 trucks and certain 2025–2026 Ford F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 Super Duty trucks. It lists 355,656 vehicles as potentially affected; that figure is not a count of trucks known to have experienced a display failure. The recall is limited to specified vehicles, so model and year alone cannot confirm eligibility. NHTSA recall notice 25V540.
What can happen, and why?
The instrument panel cluster may fail at startup, leaving the driver without critical information such as vehicle speed or warning lights. NHTSA says a display that does not show this information increases crash risk. NHTSA’s safety notice.
The NHTSA acknowledgement describes the symptom but does not detail the software root cause. Autoblog reports that faulty cluster software could trigger a memory protection fault and prevent the cluster from restarting after the truck enters sleep mode while off. That is a secondary outlet’s explanation, not wording from NHTSA’s notice. Autoblog’s report.

The Associated Press reported that Ford had received 95 warranty claims as of June 26, 2025, and that Ford was not aware of related accidents or injuries at that time. These are time-specific figures reported by AP, not a current tally or a failure rate. Associated Press report.
How to check whether your truck is recalled
- Find your truck’s vehicle identification number (VIN).
- Enter it in the NHTSA recall lookup or use Ford’s recall lookup to check for open recalls.
- If the VIN shows Ford recall 25S88 or NHTSA campaign 25V540, follow the instructions for that vehicle and contact Ford or an authorized dealer about the update. Ford’s customer service number in the NHTSA notice is 1-866-436-7332.
What is the repair, and does it cost anything?
Ford’s stated remedy is a free software update to the instrument panel cluster. The update may be installed by a dealer or delivered over the air; the available method and instructions depend on the specific vehicle. Use the VIN lookup and Ford’s instructions to determine the next step. The recall notice does not call for owners to buy an aftermarket product or replace the cluster themselves.
