In May 2025, Ford raised prices on some newly built Mustang Mach-E, Maverick and Bronco Sport vehicles made in Mexico. The increases reached up to $2,000 on some configurations, but Ford said the change combined routine mid-year pricing with tariff costs—and that it had not passed the full cost of tariffs on to customers. The report described a past price action, not a current price list or a uniform increase on every vehicle.
Which Ford models went up in price?
Reuters reported on May 7, 2025, that Ford’s price changes applied to three Mexico-produced models: the Mustang Mach-E electric SUV, Maverick pickup and Bronco Sport. The increases took effect May 2 and reached as much as $2,000 on some models, according to a dealer notice reviewed by Reuters. That maximum does not mean every trim or configuration went up by $2,000. Reuters report republished by Investing.com, May 7, 2025.
Did Ford pass the full tariff cost on to buyers?
No. Ford described the increase as its “usual” mid-year pricing actions “combined with some tariffs we are facing.” The company’s spokesperson added: “We have not passed on the full cost of tariffs to our customers.” The reporting does not break down how much of any particular trim’s price change reflected tariffs versus routine pricing, or calculate the tariff cost allocated to an individual vehicle. The reported $2,000 maximum is a price increase, not a measurement of tariff pass-through. Reuters report republished by Investing.com.
Did the change apply to cars already at a dealer?
The reported increases were tied to build timing, not simply to the model name. Reuters said affected vehicles were built after May 2, 2025, and Ford expected them to reach dealer lots in late June. Ars Technica reported that Mach-Es, Bronco Sports and Mavericks already in dealer inventory would not receive the increase. So the May announcement was not evidence that every existing unit at a dealership was repriced. Ars Technica, May 7, 2025.

A temporary offer reported at the time
Ars also reported that Ford would extend employee pricing to all customers through at least July 4, 2025, including on vehicles built after May 2. That was a temporary promotion reported in May 2025; it should not be treated as an offer available now. Check the current quote and its terms with a dealer.
Why a tariff rate is not the same as a sticker-price increase
A tariff is a cost or duty defined by trade rules; a vehicle’s retail price is set through a broader pricing decision. Ford’s statement confirms that it did not pass the full tariff cost through to customers, while the reporting does not establish the amount of tariff cost associated with each model, trim or sale. A headline tariff rate therefore cannot be applied directly to a Ford’s MSRP to calculate what a shopper should pay.

Policy materials published in 2025 described a 25% tariff rate for covered imported automobiles or parts, subject to policy details, content rules, eligibility and offsets. The White House also described offsets for certain parts used in U.S.-assembled vehicles: 3.75% of a manufacturer’s U.S. production MSRP for April 3, 2025 through April 30, 2026, followed by 2.5% for May 1, 2026 through April 30, 2027. Those offsets were policy measures, not direct rebates to shoppers, and do not establish how Ford priced the three Mexico-built models. The USITC’s 2025 report discusses USMCA automotive rules and the offset framework but does not calculate Ford’s liability or a buyer’s final price. White House fact sheet, April 29, 2025; USITC, USMCA Automotive Rules of Origin: Economic Impact and Operation, 2025 Report.
Does a U.S.-assembled car still contain imported parts?
It can. Final assembly location and parts origin are separate questions: a vehicle assembled in the United States may contain components sourced elsewhere. Trade treatment can also depend on content rules and whether a vehicle or part qualifies under the applicable agreement. The White House and USITC materials explain aspects of the 2025 policy and automotive rules, but they do not show the parts content or tariff calculation for each individual Ford vehicle. A “made in America” label alone is not enough to determine a vehicle’s exposure.

What the 2025 reports do—and do not—say about Ford’s tariff bill
At the time, Reuters reported Ford’s estimate that tariffs would add about $2.5 billion in 2025 costs, with the company expecting to reduce that exposure by around $1 billion. Ars cited a separate Ford estimate of up to $1.5 billion from the company’s first-quarter 2025 investor statement. These were estimates reported at different points and potentially reflecting different scopes; neither should be presented as Ford’s final realized tariff cost. They also do not reveal how costs were distributed across vehicle prices. Reuters report republished by Investing.com; Ars Technica.
