Check your Cybertruck’s VIN with Tesla or NHTSA to see whether recall 24V-276 applies and whether the repair is complete. The recall covers a defined group of 2024 model-year Cybertrucks—not every Cybertruck—and build dates alone cannot confirm whether a specific vehicle is included.
What is the Cybertruck accelerator-pedal recall?
Tesla filed safety recall 24V-276 with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on April 17, 2024. It covers 3,878 potentially affected 2024 model-year Cybertrucks manufactured from November 13, 2023, through April 4, 2024. Tesla estimated that 100% of the recall population had the defect; that figure describes the vehicles covered by the filing, not how many remain unrepaired today.
The filing says the listed VIN ranges are not sequential. A truck’s build date can indicate whether it falls within the general production window, but it does not establish recall applicability. Use a VIN lookup for the individual vehicle.
What could happen to the accelerator pedal?
Under high force, the accelerator pedal pad could detach and become trapped in the interior trim above the pedal. That could affect pedal operation and increase collision risk. Tesla’s filing states: “If the pad on the accelerator pedal becomes trapped in the interior trim above the pedal, the performance and operation of the pedal will be affected, which may increase the risk of a collision.”

Tesla reported that pressing the brake cuts drive torque even if both pedals are pressed, and that continued braking stops the vehicle as quickly as if the accelerator were not pressed. This is Tesla’s description of the vehicle’s behavior, not a reason to test a suspected problem or delay having an applicable recall repaired.
Why did Tesla recall the Cybertruck pedals?
Tesla attributed the issue to an unapproved assembly change. Soap lubricant was introduced to help fit the pedal pad onto the accelerator pedal; residual lubricant reduced the pad’s retention. The company said production vehicles had a new accelerator pedal component by April 17, 2024.

How to check whether your Cybertruck is affected
- Find your Cybertruck’s 17-character VIN. It is commonly displayed on the vehicle and in ownership documents.
- Enter the VIN in Tesla’s Cybertruck Accelerator Pedal Trim Recall page or NHTSA’s recall lookup.
- Review the result for recall applicability and repair status. If the result is unclear or the recall appears open, contact Tesla service to confirm the official remedy and arrange service.
A recall notice or a build date within the window is not a substitute for the VIN-level result. Likewise, a VIN lookup is the appropriate way to establish whether the campaign applies to a particular vehicle.

The recall remedy is free: Tesla said it would rework or replace the accelerator pedal assembly to ensure sufficient retention force. Its April 18, 2024 service bulletin directs technicians to inspect the pedal and, depending on its condition, either secure it with a rivet-based rework or replace the assembly. The rework uses a special kit and drilling jig, so the repair method is for Tesla service to determine and perform.

Tesla planned owner notification for June 18, 2024. As of April 15, 2024, the company reported that it knew of no related collisions, injuries, or deaths. That was a dated statement in the recall filing, not a current incident count.
