Choose the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 if your priority is the highest published power, quickest stated acceleration, greatest top-speed claim, or a convertible body. Choose the Ford Mustang GTD if you are more interested in Ford’s reported Nürburgring result, adaptive track suspension and Mustang identity. Chevrolet publishes ZR1 starting prices; Ford’s cited GTD page does not publish a price. These are manufacturer figures and configurations, not a controlled head-to-head test.
Mustang GTD or Corvette ZR1: the short answer
The Corvette ZR1 has the stronger specification-sheet case for outright performance. Chevrolet lists 1,064 horsepower from its twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter flat-plane-crank V8, 828 lb-ft of torque, a 0–60 mph time as low as 2.3 seconds with the available ZTK Performance Package, and 233 mph on track when equipped with ZTK. Ford lists the Mustang GTD at 815 horsepower, 664 lb-ft and 202 mph.

The GTD’s distinction is different. Ford reports a 6-minute 40.835-second Nürburgring lap, describes race-derived suspension with adaptive dampers and rear geometry, and provides a button-operated 40-millimeter ride-height drop for track days. Chevrolet’s cited material does not report a same-track, same-condition lap against the GTD, so the available evidence cannot establish an overall circuit winner.

For a buyer, the decision is therefore about priorities rather than a universal ranking: ZR1 for published power, acceleration, top speed and open-air choice; GTD for Ford’s Nürburgring-focused engineering, adjustable track hardware and coupe-only Mustang character.

Every performance number in the table is a manufacturer-published claim. The ZR1’s acceleration and 233-mph figure require the available ZTK package, while the GTD’s lap time is identified by Ford as its Nürburgring result.
Power and straight-line speed
Why the ZR1 leads on the published numbers
The ZR1’s 1,064 hp exceeds the GTD’s listed output by 249 hp, and its 828 lb-ft exceeds the GTD’s by 164 lb-ft. Chevrolet pairs that engine with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. On Chevrolet’s current 2027 page, the car is claimed to reach 60 mph in as little as 2.3 seconds and 233 mph on track when fitted with ZTK.
Those figures answer the question “Is the Corvette ZR1 faster than the Mustang GTD?” in the narrow, published-specification sense: the ZR1 has the higher stated horsepower, higher stated torque, a stated 0–60 time and a higher stated top speed. The comparison is not a timed test between the two cars. Ford does not provide a GTD 0–60 figure on the cited page, and Chevrolet’s 233-mph number is explicitly track- and package-conditioned.

Ford lists the GTD’s supercharged 5.2-liter V8 at 815 hp at 7,400 rpm and 664 lb-ft at 4,800 rpm, with a 202-mph top-speed claim. Those are substantial figures, but they do not come with a published GTD acceleration time in the cited material. Do not substitute the ZR1’s 2.3-second claim with an assumed GTD result; no supported figure is available here.
Do not confuse model years in Chevrolet’s material
Chevrolet’s December 18, 2024 newsroom release described the 2025 ZR1’s 1,064 hp at 7,000 rpm and 828 lb-ft at 6,000 rpm, and said the available ZTK package enables a 2.3-second 0–60-mph time. The engine output is consistent with the later product-page figures, but that 2025 release should not be used as the source for the 2026 or 2027 starting prices.
What the Nürburgring evidence does—and does not—prove
Ford states: “The Ford Mustang® GTD did the Nürburgring in 6 minutes and 40.835 seconds.” Ford also calls the result the first time an American production car broke the seven-minute barrier there. This is meaningful evidence of the GTD’s intended track capability, but it remains a Ford-reported result rather than an independently controlled comparison with a ZR1.

The cited Chevrolet pages and newsroom release do not provide a Nürburgring lap for the ZR1 under matching driver, tire, weather, fuel, timing and specification conditions. Without those controls, it would be inaccurate to declare the GTD or ZR1 the faster car around a circuit. A lap time from one manufacturer and acceleration or top-speed claims from another measure different things.

- Treat the GTD’s 6:40.835 as evidence of Ford’s development target and a reported achievement, not a universal ranking.
- Treat the ZR1’s 2.3-second 0–60 and 233-mph figures as ZTK-equipped Chevrolet claims, not values that apply to every ZR1 configuration.
- Ask a dealer which tires, aerodynamic options and package contents apply to the car you can actually order; the cited material does not establish every configuration detail.
Price, model year and buying access
Corvette ZR1 starting prices
Chevrolet’s official 2026 ZR1 page lists a $185,000 starting price. Its current 2027 page lists a $197,700 starting price. Keep the model year attached to either number: the two figures are not interchangeable, and the $12,700 difference is a model-year change, not evidence of what a dealer will charge for a particular car, option package or market.
The 2027 page was accessed October 13, 2026, while the 2025 performance figures come from Chevrolet’s December 18, 2024 newsroom release. Those dates matter because product pages and ordering information can change between model years.
Mustang GTD pricing
Ford’s cited official GTD page does not publish a starting price. Its FAQ says Ford keeps exact GTD production numbers to itself and directs interested buyers to Ford’s email list for pricing information. The available evidence therefore cannot support a GTD MSRP, a production count or a direct dollar comparison with either ZR1 model year.
What the quoted price does and does not include
A starting price is only the first line of a purchase worksheet. It may not represent destination charges, taxes, registration, dealer-installed equipment, financing costs or market adjustments. The ZR1’s published figures also do not establish the price of the ZTK Performance Package or whether every performance item shown in Chevrolet’s claims is standard on the specific car you can obtain. Conversely, no GTD estimate should be presented as fact until Ford provides a written figure for your allocation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhat to verify before placing an order
- Confirm the exact model year and written starting price for the ZR1.
- Ask which ZTK equipment is included, available or required for the acceleration and top-speed claims you care about.
- Contact Ford through its current GTD inquiry route for live pricing, allocation and ordering information rather than relying on an unofficial estimate.
- Request a written list of destination charges, taxes, dealer-installed items and options before comparing totals.
- Recheck inventory and order windows immediately before committing; the cited sources do not establish current dealer availability.
Configuration and hardware differences
Mustang GTD: a track-focused coupe
Ford presents the GTD as a coupe and emphasizes hardware derived from racing applications. The cited page describes rear suspension geometry, adaptive dampers and a control that lowers the ride height by 40 mm for track days. That combination suggests an owner who expects to change the car’s setup for circuit use rather than simply drive a high-powered road coupe.

Ford also says carbon-fiber panels and the driveshaft are standard. The page does not provide a complete option list, brake specification, transmission description or exact production total, so those details should be confirmed directly for the car offered to you.
Corvette ZR1: coupe or convertible
The ZR1 is offered as either a coupe or convertible, giving it a body-style choice the GTD does not have in the cited material. Chevrolet lists standard carbon-ceramic brakes and Magnetic Selective Ride Control 4.0. For buyers who want open-air driving or regard brake hardware as a key part of repeated track use, those listed features are central to the decision.
Chevrolet’s wording calls the engine “a twin-turbocharged 5.5L flat-plane crank V8 — the most powerful engine ever offered in a production Corvette.” That is Chevrolet’s corporate description; it is not a quote from a named engineer or executive.
What the equipment difference means in practice
- Choose the GTD’s approach if the ability to lower ride height at the press of a button, adaptive dampers and Ford’s stated Nürburgring focus matter more than having a convertible.
- Choose the ZR1’s approach if standard carbon-ceramic brakes, magnetic ride control, dual-clutch shifting and a choice of coupe or convertible fit your use.
- Do not infer missing equipment. The available GTD information does not specify its transmission or brakes, and the cited ZR1 material does not itemize every carbon-fiber component.
Daily use, ownership questions and track preparation
Neither manufacturer’s cited figures answer whether one car is easier to live with every day. Buyers should sit in both, check seating position and visibility, and determine whether the coupe-only GTD or the ZR1 convertible better fits their routine. Storage, ingress, road noise, ride quality, fuel use and insurance can matter more than a 249-hp gap when the car is driven to work rather than trailered to a circuit.
Track use adds its own checklist. Ask about the recommended tire specification, alignment settings, brake-fluid requirements, heat-management procedures, consumable replacement intervals and whether repeated circuit use affects warranty coverage. The published pages identify the GTD’s adaptive suspension and the ZR1’s carbon-ceramic brakes, but they do not establish service prices, consumable life or track-day warranty terms. Obtain those answers in writing for the exact model year.
Also separate a car’s capability from the driver’s environment. A 233-mph claim is relevant only at a suitable closed course, and a Nürburgring time says little about performance on a short technical circuit, a wet road or a daily commute. Arrange an appropriate test drive and, where possible, sample the tires and suspension settings you would actually order.

Which should you buy?
Buy the Corvette ZR1 when these are your priorities
- You want the highest published horsepower and torque in this comparison.
- You want a manufacturer-stated 0–60 time, accepting that the 2.3-second claim requires the available ZTK Performance Package.
- You value the higher 233-mph track claim, with the same ZTK qualification.
- You want to choose between a coupe and a convertible.
- You need a published starting price to begin budgeting: $185,000 for 2026 or $197,700 for 2027, before confirming options and transaction costs.
- You value standard carbon-ceramic brakes and an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission as listed by Chevrolet.
Consider the Mustang GTD when these are your priorities
- You are drawn to Ford’s reported 6:40.835 Nürburgring result and want a car developed around that kind of track target.
- You value adaptive dampers, rear suspension geometry and a 40-mm button-operated ride-height drop for circuit days.
- You prefer a coupe-only, Mustang-based identity and standard carbon-fiber panels and driveshaft as described by Ford.
- You are prepared to contact Ford for current pricing and allocation because the cited page does not publish a starting price.
- You want a distinct American performance-car character rather than the ZR1’s mid-engine Corvette format, while recognizing that the cited figures do not prove which car feels better from behind the wheel.
When neither published case is enough
If your decision depends on reliability, service cost, cabin comfort, luggage space, road noise, fuel consumption, insurance or long-term resale, the cited evidence does not settle those questions. Those factors can outweigh a horsepower advantage for an owner who drives every day. Arrange an appropriate test drive, obtain insurance quotations and ask the selling dealer about scheduled maintenance and parts support for the exact model year.
Which is better for track days?
There is no defensible one-word winner from the available evidence. The GTD has the more specific track narrative: Ford reports the Nürburgring time and describes adaptive dampers, rear geometry and a ride-height control intended for track days. The ZR1 counters with greater published power, standard carbon-ceramic brakes, Magnetic Selective Ride Control 4.0 and ZTK-conditioned acceleration and top speed.
Your track-day priorities should decide the shortlist:
| If you care most about… | Evidence pointing toward… | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Published circuit evidence | Mustang GTD | Ford supplies a specific Nürburgring result; no matching ZR1 time is provided in the cited sources. |
| Maximum straight-line performance | Corvette ZR1 | It has the higher published horsepower, torque, acceleration claim and top-speed claim. |
| Brake specification on the standard car | Corvette ZR1 | Chevrolet lists standard carbon-ceramic brakes. |
| Adjustable track ride height | Mustang GTD | Ford describes a button-operated 40-mm drop for track days. |
| Open-air track or road driving | Corvette ZR1 | The ZR1 is offered as a convertible as well as a coupe. |
Neither table nor manufacturer claim substitutes for a same-day test at the circuit you use. Surface, temperature, tire choice, driver and setup can change the result substantially.
Important unknowns to resolve with a dealer
- Final transaction price, options, destination charges and taxes.
- Allocation rules, order timing and whether a specific model year is still available.
- Exact tire, aerodynamic and brake configuration on the car being offered.
- Maintenance intervals, consumables and track-use warranty terms.
- Seat fit, visibility, ingress, ride quality and storage for your normal driving.
- Insurance cost and regional registration treatment for a high-performance vehicle.
- Whether the quoted ZR1 price is for a coupe or convertible and which ZTK components are installed.
- Whether Ford’s quoted GTD specification matches the production car’s final calibration and equipment.
These are ownership questions, not conclusions that can be drawn from the published horsepower, speed and lap-time claims.

Bottom line
The Corvette ZR1 is the logical choice for a buyer who wants the biggest published numbers, a stated 2.3-second sprint with ZTK and a convertible option. The Mustang GTD is the more distinctive choice for someone motivated by Ford’s Nürburgring result, adjustable track suspension, carbon-fiber construction details and Mustang identity. Because the figures come from each manufacturer rather than a controlled comparison, choose the car whose specific use case matches your priorities, then verify current pricing, allocation, equipment, insurance and service support before ordering.

Frequently Asked Questions
Mustang GTD or Corvette ZR1: which should I buy?
Buy the ZR1 if published horsepower, torque, acceleration, top speed and a convertible matter most. Consider the GTD if Ford’s reported Nürburgring result, adaptive track suspension and coupe-only Mustang identity are your priorities.
Is the Corvette ZR1 faster than the Mustang GTD?
On published specifications, yes: Chevrolet lists 1,064 hp, 828 lb-ft, a 2.3-second 0–60 claim and 233 mph on track with ZTK, versus Ford’s 815 hp, 664 lb-ft and 202 mph. These are not results from a controlled head-to-head test.
How much does a Mustang GTD cost compared with a Corvette ZR1?
Chevrolet lists the 2026 ZR1 at $185,000 and the 2027 ZR1 at $197,700. Ford’s cited GTD page does not publish a starting price, so request current pricing and allocation directly from Ford.
Which is better for track days?
The GTD offers the clearest published circuit evidence, including Ford’s 6:40.835 Nürburgring claim and a 40-mm ride-height drop. The ZR1 offers more power, standard carbon-ceramic brakes and ZTK-conditioned acceleration and top speed. A same-track comparison is not established.
Does every Corvette ZR1 reach 233 mph?
No. Chevrolet specifies 233 mph on track for a ZR1 equipped with the available ZTK Performance Package. Confirm the package and equipment on the particular car you can order.
Is the Mustang GTD available as a convertible?
Ford presents the GTD as a coupe. Chevrolet offers the ZR1 as either a coupe or convertible, giving the Corvette the body-style advantage for open-air driving.
The Bottom Line
Choose the Corvette ZR1 for the strongest published straight-line specification and a convertible option; choose the Mustang GTD for Ford’s Nürburgring-focused engineering and adjustable track hardware. Verify model-year pricing, allocation, package content and ownership costs before signing.
