Ford’s “Road to the Ring” trailer follows the Mustang GTD team’s bid to break seven minutes at the Nürburgring. Ford announced a 6:57.685 Nordschleife lap on December 10, 2024—but the video is a documentary presentation of that effort, not independent proof of performance, and Ford labels the GTD shown preproduction.
What is Ford’s “Road to the Ring” video?
Ford’s verified YouTube channel published “Ford Mustang GTD: Road to the Ring” on December 10, 2024. The 13-minute documentary follows the effort to get the street-legal GTD into the Nürburgring’s sub-seven-minute group. Ford’s description poses the question: “Can the street-legal Mustang GTD join the sub-7-minute elite?”
The trailer’s speed comes through as part of a development story: the car, team and track are shown in motion as Ford builds toward the lap attempt. That makes it compelling viewing, but the footage itself is not an independent performance verification.
How fast did Ford say the Mustang GTD was?
In its December 10, 2024 announcement, Ford reported a 6:57.685 lap of the 20.832-kilometre Nürburgring Nordschleife, a course Ford described as having 73 turns. Ford said that result made the GTD the first production model from an American brand to go under seven minutes, the sixth production sports car to do so, and fifth fastest in its production sports-car class according to Nürburgring records at that time. Those rankings describe Ford’s December 2024 announcement, not a current leaderboard.

Ford’s video description calls the circuit 12.94 miles; the announcement gives its length as 20.832 kilometres. The reported lap and ranking are Ford’s claims about the result, rather than an independent test in the trailer.
Is the Mustang GTD in the trailer a production car?
Not necessarily. Ford’s video disclaimer says: “Preproduction Ford Mustang® GTD shown. Actual production vehicle may vary.” It also includes a closed-course and professional-driver warning. The footage therefore should not be treated as a guarantee that a customer-delivered GTD has precisely the same specification or would reproduce the lap under ordinary driving conditions.

Why do Ford’s current pages show different GTD figures?
Ford’s UK and Germany GTD pages give different performance figures and conflicting 2025 Nordschleife lap times. The pages do not explain whether the differences come from market specification, units, vehicle configuration or a correction, so the values should remain attributed to their respective pages rather than combined into a single definitive specification.
| Ford source | Power and torque listed | 2025 Nürburgring time listed |
|---|---|---|
| Ford UK GTD page | 815 horsepower; 900 Nm | 6:40.835 |
| Ford Germany GTD page | 826 PS; 864 Nm | 6 minutes 52 seconds |
The German page uses PS, while the UK page labels its figure horsepower. The two 2025 lap times also disagree materially; the available page information does not resolve the discrepancy. Neither should be presented as a settled universal figure without additional clarification.

What to take away from the trailer
“Road to the Ring” is Ford’s account of the GTD’s push toward a sub-seven-minute lap, paired with Ford’s reported 6:57.685 result from 2024. Its own preproduction disclaimer matters: the video documents the effort, while the lap and its time-bound rankings come from Ford’s announcement.
