Ford lists a $28,350 starting MSRP for the standard-range version, but that excludes a $1,595 destination and delivery charge. The resulting $29,945 is before taxes and other fees. Preorders are expected to begin in early 2027; the truck is not currently orderable, and key specifications such as range and towing capacity have not been published.
What is Ford Fathom?
Fathom is Ford’s announced midsize electric pickup and the first vehicle planned for the company’s Universal EV Platform. Ford first described the project in August 2025 as a four-door electric pickup with a target starting price of about $30,000 and customer deliveries expected in 2027. In August 2026, Ford gave the truck its name and published a specific starting MSRP. Ford’s 2025 platform announcement and its 2026 Fathom announcement provide that timeline.
Ford has linked the project to a redesigned vehicle platform and production process. Its 2025 announcement cited a planned $5 billion investment across the EV platform, manufacturing processes, and midsize truck program, including $2 billion for transforming Louisville Assembly Plant, where Ford said the truck would be assembled. Those are company investment commitments, not per-vehicle costs or proof of realized savings.
How much will the electric pickup cost?
Ford’s product page lists the standard-range Fathom at a $28,350 starting MSRP. Ford separately lists destination and delivery at $1,595, bringing those two published amounts to $29,945. That figure is still not an out-the-door price: taxes, title, registration, dealer documentation, and other applicable fees can add to it. The MSRP is a manufacturer’s suggested price, not a confirmed transaction price.

When can you preorder Ford Fathom?
Ford says preorders begin in early 2027 and promotes Fathom as arriving in 2027. It has not provided an exact public on-sale date in the cited announcements. Ford’s August 2026 manufacturing update said the program remained on schedule to roll out trucks in 2027, with prototype builds using production-qualified parts planned to begin in the first quarter of 2027. That is a company schedule, not a confirmed retail delivery date. Ford’s announcement and manufacturing update describe the plans. The product page invites shoppers to sign up for updates and says preorder invitations begin in early 2027.

What features has Ford announced?
Ford says Fathom is expected to seat five adults and include both a front trunk (frunk) and a pickup bed. The company has also announced bidirectional power capability, digital key functionality, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and hardware capable of supporting BlueCruise. These are manufacturer-announced features, not independently tested results; final equipment and availability may vary.
BlueCruise is a driver-assistance system, not autonomous driving. Ford’s disclosure says its use is limited to designated hands-free Blue Zones, requires an active plan or trial, and still requires the driver to remain alert.

Which important specifications are still unknown?
Ford says projected EPA-estimated driving range figures are not yet available. The cited Ford materials also do not give final battery capacity, charging rate, towing capacity, payload, or a complete trim lineup. Without those figures, the $28,350 starting price alone cannot show how Fathom compares with other pickups on range, work capability, or value.
Ford projects passenger volume greater than a Toyota RAV4, but that is the company’s projection, not a measured head-to-head result. Once comparable specifications are published, useful comparison points will include delivered price, EPA-estimated range, charging rate and connector, towing and payload, cabin and bed utility, warranty, availability, and any driver-assistance plan terms.
