Ford’s forthcoming midsize electric pickup is called Fathom. Ford currently lists a starting MSRP of $28,350 for the standard-range version, before destination and delivery or dealer documentation fees. Preorders are scheduled to begin in early 2027; range and several key specifications have not yet been published.
What is Ford’s new midsize electric truck called?
Ford named the truck Fathom in June 2026. It is a four-door, five-seat midsize pickup. Ford says it will have a front trunk (frunk) as well as a pickup bed. Ford’s explanation of the Fathom name describes the model as the first vehicle on its Universal EV Platform.
Fathom is not Project T3. Ford has described Fathom as a midsize electric pickup and Project T3 as a separate, next-generation full-size electric truck. Ford’s 2024 electrification strategy made that distinction while outlining its plans.
What is the Fathom’s price?
Ford’s current product page lists a $28,350 starting MSRP for the standard-range battery. The page lists destination and delivery at $1,595, which brings the total to $29,945 before any dealer documentation fees or other applicable charges. This is a listed starting price, not a confirmed transaction price or a guarantee that a dealer will have a vehicle at that price. Ford’s Fathom product page has the current pricing information.

When can buyers preorder or take delivery?
Ford says Fathom preorders will begin in early 2027. Its 2025 announcement said the truck was scheduled to reach customers in 2027, but the official material reviewed does not give a specific delivery date. A preorder start is not the same as a confirmed delivery window.
What features and specifications has Ford announced?
Ford’s current product material and announcements describe the following planned features. These are company claims, not results from an independent road test.

- Cabin technology: a large, high-resolution touchscreen, a digital key and remote controls through the Ford app.
- Phone connectivity: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
- Power capability: bidirectional power, which Ford lists as a feature.
- Driver assistance: hardware for BlueCruise capability. Ford describes BlueCruise as hands-free driving on designated highways while the driver remains eyes-on. Hardware capability does not mean the feature is activated, and it is not autonomous driving.
Ford’s Fathom product page includes the current feature descriptions and states that projected EPA-estimated range figures are not yet available.
Which important specifications are still unknown?
Ford has not yet published a projected EPA-estimated driving range. Its 2025 announcement said battery sizes and charge times would be shared later. The reviewed official material also does not provide a confirmed battery capacity, charging time, towing or payload rating, final trim walk, or independent performance results.
Those gaps matter for comparing an electric pickup with another vehicle: range and charging time affect longer trips, while payload and towing ratings determine whether a truck can handle a particular load or trailer. Until Ford publishes those figures, claims about Fathom’s suitability for those uses would be speculation.

How Ford says it plans to build the truck
Ford says Fathom will be the first vehicle built on its Universal EV Platform and assembled at Louisville Assembly Plant for U.S. and export markets. The related Universal EV Production System uses three parallel subassemblies—the vehicle front, vehicle rear and structural battery assembly—that join at the end of the process.
Ford framed the platform as a way to reduce complexity and cost. In its 2025 announcement, the company said the platform would use 20% fewer parts than a typical vehicle and target 15% faster assembly time. Ford also said the wiring harness would be more than 4,000 feet (1.3 kilometers) shorter and 10 kilograms lighter than the one in its first-generation electric SUV. These are Ford’s comparisons and targets, not independently verified production results. Ford’s announcement of the platform and truck outlines those claims.

Ford reported approximately $5 billion in combined planned investment across Louisville Assembly Plant and BlueOval Battery Park Michigan, with nearly 4,000 jobs created or secured across the two sites. The same announcement attributed about $2 billion and 2,200 hourly jobs secured to Louisville Assembly Plant, and $3 billion committed and 1,700 jobs to BlueOval Battery Park Michigan. What to check before comparing Fathom with other pickups
Fathom’s current price and announced features are not enough to make a sound head-to-head buying recommendation. When the missing details become available, compare the actual version and costs you can buy rather than relying on a headline price.
