The SS V Redline in the cited comparison uses a 6.0-litre naturally aspirated V8. It makes its output without a supercharger, so the engine architecture and supporting systems differ from the Falcon’s even though both cars are rear-drive V8 performance models. Do not use a period acceleration or dynamometer result as a substitute for an inspection. A modified car may have a different calibration, exhaust, pulley, intake, tyres or control software. Conversely, an apparently standard car may have deferred maintenance that affects performance.
When comparing two listings, record whether each figure is a factory specification, a magazine test result or a seller’s claim. Keep those categories separate. A test result may reflect a particular fuel load, weather, surface and test method; a seller’s dyno sheet may be from a modified car and may not be directly comparable with the published figures.
Identify the exact car before comparing prices or condition

Inspect the XR8’s Brembo brake package
The used-car guide notes the up-spec Brembo package on FG X XR8s. Inspect the actual calipers, discs, pads, brake hoses and fluid condition. Look for uneven disc wear, lip formation, vibration, pulling under braking and evidence of seized calipers. Confirm that replacement parts and previous work match the car’s equipment; do not assume that every brake component is identical across Falcon trims.

Safety ratings: model group coverage is not a trim score
The Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads Used Car Safety Ratings Buyer’s Guide 2019–20 includes the Ford Falcon FG/FG-X and Holden Commodore VF model groups. - Insurance quotes using your location, driver profile, agreed value and modifications.
- Tyres, brakes, fluids and scheduled servicing for the actual car.
- Fuel consumption based on your driving and current local fuel prices.
- A reserve for age-related repairs and deferred maintenance discovered after purchase.
Ask for written quotes and receipts. A low advertised price can disappear if the car needs tyres, brake work, cooling-system repairs or undocumented driveline work immediately after purchase.
Compare at least three genuinely similar cars before deciding that one model is expensive. Adjust for build date, ownership history, kilometres, originality, accident history and included parts. Obtain insurance quotes before making an offer, because a high-performance V8 and declared modifications can materially change the premium.
