A model-year or build-date match alone does not confirm that your pickup is included: check its VIN with Ford or NHTSA, then ask a Ford dealer to confirm the truck’s status and arrange the free repair if the recall is open.
Which F-150 transmission recall is this?
The current campaign is NHTSA recall 26V237, corresponding to Ford recall 26S28. Ford’s report describes an intermittent transmission range sensor (TRS) signal to the powertrain control module (PCM). If the signal is lost, the truck may unexpectedly downshift into second gear. NHTSA warns that this could cause loss of vehicle control and increase crash risk.
The report lists 1,392,935 vehicles as the potential population and estimates a defect rate of 1%. Those are NHTSA’s 2026 campaign figures, not a count of confirmed failures or a prediction that any particular F-150 is affected. Ford submitted the recall report on April 14, 2026; NHTSA’s acknowledgement letter is dated April 16, 2026.
Which trucks should owners check?
The campaign concerns certain F-150s with six-speed automatic transmissions, built from March 12, 2014 through August 18, 2017. The covered model years are 2015–2017. These details can help you decide whether to look up your truck, but they do not prove recall eligibility: the vehicles were not produced in VIN order, according to Ford’s Part 573 report.

Do not assume every truck in those model years is included, or that a truck outside a quick date-based screen has no other open recalls. The VIN-specific record is what matters.
How to check your F-150 VIN
- Find your truck’s 17-character VIN. It is typically visible through the windshield on the driver’s side of the dashboard and on vehicle paperwork.
- Enter the VIN in NHTSA’s recall lookup or use Ford’s recall support.
- Check the result for Ford campaign 26S28 or NHTSA campaign 26V237, and note whether the recall is shown as incomplete or already remedied.
- Contact a Ford dealer with the VIN to confirm the campaign’s status for that truck and schedule the repair if it remains open.
A general model-year search or a match to the build window is not a substitute for this check. The available public campaign information establishes the recall’s scope and lookup routes, but only a VIN lookup or dealer confirmation can establish the live status of an individual pickup.

What is the recall repair?
The stated remedy is a powertrain control module software update performed by a dealer at no charge. The recall notice does not call for replacing the transmission. Ask the dealer to confirm that the recall repair has been completed and that the VIN record reflects it.
