Short answer: The current U.S. Tesla Cybertruck Dual Motor AWD has a slightly higher published EPA-estimated range than the longest-range 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning—325 miles versus up to 320 miles—but the difference is only five miles at the top of each lineup. Tesla also lists the higher maximum tow rating, 11,000 pounds versus up to 10,000 pounds for a properly equipped Lightning. Ford publishes a comparable 15–80% DC-fast-charge estimate; the current U.S. Cybertruck configurator does not publish the same timed window, so a fair charging-speed winner cannot be declared from these pages alone.
Those headline figures describe different model years and configurations. A useful buying decision requires the exact Lightning battery and tow package, the Cybertruck drive configuration, your trailer’s loaded weight and tongue weight, the charging hardware at home, and the stations available along your routes.

Ford F-150 Lightning vs. Tesla Cybertruck: the published numbers
The figures below come from Ford’s 2025 U.S. consumer and technical specifications and Tesla’s current U.S. Cybertruck configurator. They are manufacturer-published ratings, not results from a common test. EPA range is an estimate under standardized conditions, and maximum tow ratings do not promise that either truck will achieve its unladen range while towing.
| Specification | 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning (U.S.) | Current Tesla Cybertruck (U.S. configurator) |
|---|---|---|
| EPA-estimated range | 240 miles with the 98-kWh standard-range battery; 300 miles for listed 123-kWh configurations; up to 320 miles for listed 131-kWh Pro and Lariat configurations; Platinum is listed at 300 miles. | 325 miles for Dual Motor AWD. |
| Maximum tow rating | XLT: 5,000 lb standard or 7,700 lb with the available Max Trailer Tow Package. Flash and Lariat: 7,700 lb or 10,000 lb with that package. Platinum: 8,500 lb, with the package standard. | Up to 11,000 lb for Dual Motor AWD. |
| DC fast charging | Ford estimates 15–80% in 32 minutes for 98 kWh or 38 minutes for 123/131 kWh on a 150-kW-or-higher charger. | The U.S. configurator identifies Supercharging access but does not provide a matching 15–80% time window. |
| Home-charging equipment | Ford lists 48-amp and 80-amp stations plus mobile charging. A 131-kWh battery’s 80-amp option is identified as fleet-only. | Tesla lists a Universal Wall Connector and Mobile Connector. |
For a particular vehicle, use the door-label and owner’s manual ratings rather than a generic web-page maximum. Wheels, tires, battery, hitch equipment, passengers and cargo can change the allowable combination.

Ford F-150 Lightning vs. Tesla Cybertruck range
Top-line range is nearly tied
Tesla’s current U.S. configurator lists 325 EPA-estimated miles for the Dual Motor AWD Cybertruck. Ford’s 2025 Lightning figures span a wider range: 240 miles for the 98-kWh standard-range configuration, 300 miles for listed 123-kWh configurations, as much as 320 miles for listed 131-kWh Pro and Lariat configurations, and 300 miles for Platinum.
That makes the Cybertruck’s displayed maximum five miles higher than the Lightning’s displayed maximum. It does not mean the vehicles will travel the same distance on a trip. The numbers apply to different configurations, and EPA estimates are not guarantees of trip distance. Cold weather, speed, hills, payload, tire choice, wind and trailer drag can all reduce energy efficiency.
Battery size explains much of the Lightning spread
Ford identifies usable battery capacities of 98, 123 and 131 kWh for the 2025 truck. The standard-range battery’s 240-mile estimate is intended for buyers whose daily use does not require the extra capacity. The extended-range figures add miles between charges, but they also make the vehicle’s exact trim and equipment important when comparing prices, payload and charging time.

A 240-mile XLT comparison and a 320-mile extended-range Lariat comparison are materially different vehicles even though both carry the F-150 Lightning name.
How to use the estimates for trip planning
- Start with the exact EPA estimate shown for the trim and battery you are considering.
- Map the route using the truck’s expected speed, elevation, weather and payload rather than assuming the EPA number is a guaranteed reserve.
- Identify usable fast chargers before departure and leave a buffer for detours, queues or a station that is offline.
- If towing, plan from observed consumption for your trailer and route; never divide the maximum tow rating into the EPA range to predict a towing range.
How much can a Cybertruck tow compared with an F-150 Lightning?
Cybertruck has the higher published maximum
Tesla lists up to 11,000 pounds for the Dual Motor AWD Cybertruck. Ford lists up to 10,000 pounds for Flash and Lariat trucks equipped with the available Max Trailer Tow Package. On the 2025 Lightning, the rating is lower without that package: XLT is 5,000 pounds standard, while Flash and Lariat are 7,700 pounds. Platinum is listed at 8,500 pounds, with its tow package standard.
| 2025 Lightning configuration | Published maximum | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| XLT | 5,000 lb | Standard configuration |
| XLT | 7,700 lb | With available Max Trailer Tow Package |
| Flash or Lariat | 7,700 lb | Without the package |
| Flash or Lariat | 10,000 lb | With available Max Trailer Tow Package |
| Platinum | 8,500 lb | Package is standard |
| Cybertruck Dual Motor AWD | 11,000 lb | Current U.S. configurator listing |
Trailer weight is more than the empty trailer
For either truck, trailer weight includes cargo and additional equipment. A trailer’s loaded mass can be substantially higher than its advertised empty or “dry” weight. Add water, fuel, batteries, tools, recreational equipment and personal belongings before checking the rating.

- Ingenious Design: The compartments in the tray are different sizes, with a lot of thought into the shape and size for common things one would carry in a truck, such as phones, keys, or tools.
- Extra Space: The tray works with your original tray to double the storage and maintain a clean, tidy console. Note: If you lost your original tray, you can buy two of our trays, they also fit perfectly and work well.
- Prevent Movement: The original console only had one tray, which would move and make sounds when you turned while driving. With this tray, not only is an extra storage space added, but any slippage is also prevented.
- High Quality: The console tray is made of high-quality ABS material. The material feels sturdy and durable, and It’s a simple but very practical addition.
Payload and tongue weight can become the limiting factor
The truck must carry occupants, luggage, hitch hardware and the trailer’s tongue load. Tesla’s towing guidance warns that people, gear and cargo in the Cybertruck reduce available tongue weight and therefore can reduce the maximum trailer weight. The same practical constraint applies to the Lightning: a tow rating is not permission to exceed the truck’s payload, axle, tire or hitch limits.

Maximum tow rating is not towing range
Trailer frontal area, speed, wind, hills and temperature can consume far more energy than the same truck uses without a trailer. A trailer near the rating may require frequent charging stops even when the truck’s unladen EPA range looks sufficient. Treat the tow rating as a structural and safety limit, not as a distance promise.
DC fast charging: what can actually be compared?
Ford supplies a defined charge window
Ford estimates that a 2025 Lightning with the 98-kWh battery can charge from 15% to 80% in 32 minutes on a DC fast charger rated at 150 kW or higher. The 123-kWh and 131-kWh versions are estimated at 38 minutes for the same window. Ford also estimates approximately 62 miles of range added in 10 minutes for the standard-range battery and 65 miles for an extended-range battery.
These are manufacturer estimates. Charging speed changes with battery temperature, charger output, the truck’s state of charge, battery conditioning and the station’s available power. Ford notes that the rate slows as the battery approaches full, which is why a 15–80% window is more useful than a claim based only on peak power.

Tesla’s current U.S. configurator confirms Supercharging access but, in the displayed material used for this comparison, does not give a directly comparable 15–80% time. Without the same battery window, charger condition and test method, it would be misleading to call one truck faster solely from these pages.

When comparing a real trip, look at the complete charging curve and the station’s sustained power, not just a peak figure. A short stop that adds the miles you need can matter more than the time to reach 80% when the last portion of a charge is deliberately slower.
Can the F-150 Lightning use Tesla Superchargers?
Ford says the BlueOval Charge Network includes Tesla Superchargers when the Lightning is used with an available NACS fast-charging adapter. That gives Lightning owners access to participating Supercharger locations, but it does not mean every location is compatible.
Before relying on a station, verify the location in Ford’s current compatibility information and in the station listing. Check that the connector, adapter approval, truck software and payment method are supported. An adapter is an additional item to obtain and carry; it does not change the Lightning’s charging limits or guarantee that a particular site will accept the vehicle.
Tesla states that Cybertruck includes access to its Supercharger network. The practical difference is that Cybertruck is designed around Tesla’s charging ecosystem, while a Lightning owner must account for adapter availability and station-specific compatibility.

Lightning home-charge options
Ford lists 48-amp and 80-amp charging stations and mobile charging options for the 2025 Lightning. Its published 15–100% estimates are 10–13 hours for the listed 48-amp/80-amp configurations. The 80-amp option associated with the 131-kWh battery is identified as fleet-only, so a retail buyer should not assume that configuration is available.
Ford also estimates 15–20 hours when charging from a 30-amp, 240-volt mobile setup. Actual time depends on the circuit, the vehicle’s onboard charging configuration, starting state of charge and installation limits. A licensed electrician should confirm that the service, breaker, wiring and receptacle can support the selected equipment.

Cybertruck home equipment
Tesla lists a Universal Wall Connector and Mobile Connector for the Cybertruck. The time required at home depends on the installed circuit and charger settings, the battery state of charge and the vehicle configuration. The current U.S. configurator does not provide a directly matching full-charge time in the material compared here, so do not substitute the Lightning’s estimates for Tesla.

- Estimate how many miles you normally drive between evenings and how often the truck sits at home.
- Have the electrical service and proposed circuit checked before purchasing a wall station.
- Choose a permanently installed Level 2 station when predictable overnight charging is more important than portability.
- Keep a mobile connector for backup or travel, but confirm the outlet type, circuit rating and local installation rules.
- Set charging limits and schedules in the vehicle so daily charging does not require routinely filling the battery to 100%.
How towing changes charging and route planning
Use a loaded trailer profile
Tesla’s owner guidance recommends entering trailer mass, dimensions and auxiliary settings in the Cybertruck’s Trailer Profiles. The profile helps the truck estimate energy consumption more realistically than an unladen setting. Use the closest loaded configuration, including cargo, rather than the trailer’s empty specification.
The Lightning likewise deserves a route plan based on the loaded combination. If you tow different trailers, keep separate notes for each trailer’s weight, shape and typical speed so your arrival estimates reflect actual use.
Allow for charger access with the trailer attached
A station may have a charger that works electrically but cannot accommodate a long truck-and-trailer combination without unhitching. Before a towing trip, check stall layout, pull-through availability, operating hours and whether the site permits a trailer to remain connected. A compatible adapter or network connection is useful only if the site is physically practical for your rig.
Expect more stops than the EPA number suggests
EPA testing does not represent every trailer, load or weather condition. Plan conservative stopping points, identify a backup station and avoid arriving at a remote charger with a nearly empty battery. The extra time is part of towing with either vehicle, regardless of which truck has the higher nominal rating.

Which truck makes more sense for different buyers?
Choose the Lightning when your priority is configuration flexibility
- You want an F-150 body and need to choose among standard- and extended-range batteries.
- Your trailer is within 5,000–10,000 pounds and you can select the required Max Trailer Tow Package.
- You value a published Ford 15–80% charge estimate and are comfortable using an approved NACS adapter where compatible.
- You already have Ford-compatible charging equipment or need the truck’s available mobile-charging options.
Choose the Cybertruck when the highest listed tow rating is decisive
- Your selected Dual Motor AWD configuration’s 11,000-pound rating is important and your loaded payload and tongue-weight calculation supports it.
- You prefer direct access to Tesla’s Supercharger network without planning around a separate fast-charging adapter.
- The displayed 325-mile EPA estimate fits your use, while recognizing that weather, speed, payload and towing can reduce it.
When neither headline number settles the decision
If your trailer is close to either truck’s limit, calculate payload and tongue weight first. If your daily driving is short and you charge at home, the five-mile difference between the top published range figures may matter less than electrical installation cost and local station availability. If you tow long distances, charger placement and trailer-compatible stall design can outweigh a nominal range advantage.
A buyer’s verification checklist
- Record the exact model year, trim, battery and drive configuration.
- Confirm the door-label payload, axle, tire, hitch and trailer ratings for the specific truck.
- For the Lightning, verify whether the Max Trailer Tow Package is fitted; for Cybertruck, verify the configuration associated with the 11,000-pound listing.
- Use loaded trailer weight, dimensions and tongue weight, not dry weight.
- Check whether your route’s fast chargers support the vehicle, connector and any required adapter.
- Compare a realistic 15–80% stop plan rather than peak charging power alone.
- Confirm the home’s circuit, charger and installation capacity before ordering equipment.
- Build a towing route with backup chargers and space to maneuver a connected trailer.
What the published comparison does not establish
These specifications do not provide an independent, current, controlled same-trailer test of range, charging time or towing energy use. A historical 2024 comparison reported earlier model-year observations, but those configurations and ratings should not be carried forward as 2025 Lightning or current Cybertruck results.
The defensible conclusion is narrower: Tesla’s current U.S. Dual Motor AWD listing has the higher displayed range and maximum tow rating, while Ford offers several Lightning battery and tow-package combinations and publishes a clearer U.S. charge-window estimate. Your best choice depends on the exact configuration and the way you load, charge and tow it.
