That was more than the estimated 10,712 Tesla Cybertrucks, but it was not a sign of growth: Lightning volume fell 16.7% from the first half of 2024. And in December 2025, Ford said it would stop making the fully electric Lightning and offer an extended-range version instead.
Which electric pickup sold the most in the U.S. in the first half of 2025?
The F-150 Lightning ranked first among the five models in the reported U.S. comparison. The table covers January–June 2025, not global or full-year sales. Ford reported its own Lightning figure; Tesla and Rivian do not publish the model-level sales splits used here, so the Cybertruck and R1T figures are analyst estimates reproduced by automotive sales coverage.
| Model | U.S. H1 2025 units | Figure type |
|---|---|---|
| Ford F-150 Lightning | 13,029 | Ford-reported |
| Tesla Cybertruck | 10,712 | Analyst estimate |
| Chevrolet Silverado EV | 5,439 | Reported in comparative automotive sales coverage |
| Rivian R1T | 3,479 | Analyst estimate |
| GMC Sierra EV | 2,773 | Reported in comparative automotive sales coverage |
The figures and ranking are from Carscoops’ H1 comparison and Ford’s 2025 sales materials. Because the totals are not all direct company disclosures, the ranking is best understood as a comparison of reported and estimated model volumes.
Did the Lightning’s lead reflect sales growth?
No. Ford recorded 13,029 Lightning sales in H1 2025, down 16.7% from 15,645 in H1 2024. Being first in the model ranking describes relative volume, not momentum: the Lightning led the comparison while selling fewer vehicles than a year earlier.

The quarter-by-quarter figures help explain how it finished ahead. In Q1, the Cybertruck was ahead of the Lightning in the reported snapshot. In Q2, Ford reported 5,842 Lightnings versus an estimated 4,306 Cybertrucks; the Silverado EV had 3,056, the R1T 1,752, and the Sierra EV 1,524. The Q2 advantage was enough to put the Lightning first for the six-month period. The comparison is reported by Carscoops and Ford.
How did the pickup ranking fit the wider EV market?
The broader U.S. market had a mixed first half. Cox Automotive and Kelley Blue Book counted 607,089 new EV sales in H1 2025, up 1.5% year over year. Q2 alone recorded 310,839 sales, down 6.3% year over year. KBB’s total excludes super exotics. Those figures show why an overall market increase should not be mistaken for growth in every model: the market’s six-month total rose while the Lightning’s fell.

- Brand new box. Real rubber tires. Opening hood and doors. Made of diecast with some plastic parts. Detailed interior, exterior, engine compartment. Dimensions approximately L-8.25, W-3.5, H-3.5 inches.
Ford also reported 156,509 “electrified” vehicle sales in H1, a 14.7% increase. That category combines hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and electric vehicles; it is not Ford’s battery-electric-only sales total. Ford separately cited 117,521 hybrids and an average of 12,996 sales for each of its three EV nameplates. Neither measure should be substituted for the Lightning’s 13,029 units. Market figures are from Cox Automotive/Kelley Blue Book and Ford.

In December 2025, Ford said it would stop making the fully electric F-150 Lightning and offer an extended-range version instead, according to The Associated Press. That later strategy announcement changes the outlook for the nameplate, but not the historical result: the fully electric Lightning led this U.S. H1 2025 comparison.

The sales figures establish a ranking and a year-over-year decline; they do not establish why buyers chose one truck over another, how profitable the models were, or how satisfied owners were. The Cybertruck and R1T estimates also should not be read as manufacturer-reported model totals.
