Ford’s October 2025 F-150 Lightning assembly pause became a permanent end to production of the current-generation, all-electric truck in December. Tesla, by contrast, still listed Cybertruck as in production in its Q1 2026 investor materials—but Tesla’s public delivery reports do not disclose a Cybertruck-only sales total, so they cannot show whether its sales are “heating up.”
Did Ford stop making the F-150 Lightning?
Ford’s production story has two separate milestones. In October 2025, it announced an assembly pause as it redirected capacity toward gas and hybrid F-Series trucks following a supply disruption involving Novelis. In December 2025, Ford said production of the current-generation battery-electric F-150 Lightning had concluded. The first event was a pause; the second ended production of that version of the truck. Ford’s October 2025 statement and its December 2025 filing and associated release document the change.
Why the pause became a production exit
The October decision addressed near-term manufacturing priorities amid supply disruption: Ford shifted capacity toward gas and hybrid F-Series trucks. Its December announcement described a broader EV strategy and manufacturing-capacity reset, including the end of current-generation Lightning production. Ford’s Q2 2026 filing later updated its financial estimates for those EV strategy actions.
The planned Lightning EREV is a different vehicle plan
Ford’s plant directory identifies the Dearborn Truck Plant as the future home of an F-150 Lightning extended-range EV (EREV). That is a future product, not evidence that the discontinued battery-electric model is still being built or that the EREV is already in production. An extended-range EV is a distinct powertrain plan from the current-generation battery-electric Lightning. Ford’s plant directory lists the future EREV.

Is the Tesla Cybertruck heating up?
Tesla listed Cybertruck as in production in its Q1 2026 investor material, which also reported more than 125,000 units of installed annual manufacturing capacity for the Texas line. That figure is capacity, not a count of trucks produced, delivered, or sold. Tesla cautions that realized production can be limited by equipment uptime, component supply, factory upgrade downtime, regulatory considerations, and other factors. Tesla’s Q1 2026 investor update states both the capacity figure and its qualification.
The available delivery totals do not establish whether Cybertruck sales are rising or falling. Tesla’s Q2 and Q3 2026 releases group Cybertruck with other vehicles under “Other Models,” rather than publishing a separate Cybertruck total:

- Brand new box. Real rubber tires. Opening hood and doors. Made of diecast with some plastic parts. Detailed interior, exterior, engine compartment. Dimensions approximately L-8.25, W-3.5, H-3.5 inches.
| Quarter | Tesla-reported “Other Models” deliveries | What the total tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Q2 2026 | 12,364 units (Tesla Q2 2026 release) | Combined category; Cybertruck deliveries are not broken out. |
| Q3 2026 | 8,295 units (Tesla Q3 2026 release) | Combined category; Cybertruck deliveries are not broken out. |
Because each figure combines models, the change between these quarterly totals cannot be treated as a Cybertruck sales trend. Tesla also reported that Cybertruck deliveries had begun in the UAE in its Q1 2026 investor update; that market expansion does not supply a standalone delivery count.

The public measures describe different things: Ford’s current-generation Lightning production status, Ford’s Model e wholesale change, Tesla’s grouped “Other Models” deliveries, and Tesla’s installed Cybertruck capacity. They are not comparable truck-sales figures.

Ford reported that Model e wholesales fell 53% year over year in Q2 2026, attributing the decline primarily to right-sizing Mustang Mach-E production and discontinuing the F-150 Lightning. This is a segment-wide figure, not a Lightning-only sales decline. In the same filing, Ford estimated up to $2 billion in additional pre-tax expenses and cash expenditures for its EV strategy actions. Ford’s Q2 2026 filing provides those figures and context.
For a direct Cybertruck sales comparison, Tesla would need to publish a model-specific delivery or sales figure. The cited quarterly releases do not do so; neither its installed capacity nor the combined “Other Models” totals fill that gap.
