Expect a Ford diesel fuel-pump repair to cost anywhere from roughly $700 for a 2011–2016 6.7L low-pressure DFCM replacement to about $10,000–$15,000 for a contaminated 6.7L high-pressure system. A 2008–2010 6.4L Power Stroke may run $1,500–$2,500 in pump-only shop labor, while a catastrophic fuel-system repair is estimated at $6,000–$10,000 or more. Those figures describe different engines and repair scopes, not a universal Ford price.
The first step is identifying the year, engine, and failed component. A frame-mounted low-pressure lift pump/ Diesel Fuel Conditioning Module (DFCM) is a different assembly from the engine-mounted high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP). If an HPFP has shed metal, the injectors, rails, lines, filters, return circuit, and tank may also need inspection or replacement.

Why Ford diesel pump prices vary so widely
“Fuel pump” is an imprecise description on a diesel Ford. The invoice depends on at least five questions:
- Which Power Stroke engine and model years are involved?
- Did the low-pressure supply pump/DFCM fail, or did the engine-mounted HPFP fail?
- Is the fault isolated, or has metal debris or contaminated fuel moved through the high-pressure circuit?
- Will the shop install an OEM, remanufactured, aftermarket, or used assembly?
- What are local labor rates, vehicle access requirements, diagnostic time, taxes, and parts markup?
The available published figures are orientation for a quote conversation. They are not a representative national average, an independently verified labor-time standard, or a guaranteed price for a particular truck. Regional rates and the inspection findings can change the total substantially.

Published cost ranges by engine and repair scope
| Application and job | Published estimate | What the figure includes |
|---|---|---|
| 2011–2016 6.7L Power Stroke DFCM (low-pressure pump/conditioning module) | $450–$700 for a new OEM unit; $200–$400 aftermarket; $250–$400 shop labor | Go-Parts guide estimate for the frame-mounted DFCM. It is not an HPFP price and does not describe contamination repair. |
| 2008–2010 6.4L Power Stroke pump-only replacement | $1,500–$2,500 in shop labor | Go-Parts estimate for labor only; the pump and any additional work are separate. |
| 2008–2010 6.4L catastrophic full-system repair | $6,000–$10,000+ | Go-Parts estimate when the high-pressure failure requires broad fuel-system work. |
| 6.7L Power Stroke CP4 contaminated-system repair | Approximately $10,000–$15,000 | S&S Diesel Motorsport estimate, article dated August 18, 2026. Final scope depends on debris travel, parts choice, labor rates, and the truck. |
Do not average these numbers together. The DFCM figures cover a low-pressure module on 2011–2016 trucks; the 6.7L CP4 range covers a potentially contaminated high-pressure system; and the 6.4L figures apply to a different engine generation.
First determine which pump failed
Low-pressure DFCM or lift pump
On 2011–2016 6.7L Power Stroke trucks, the Diesel Fuel Conditioning Module is mounted on the frame. It contains the low-pressure lift pump and the primary filter/water separator. Fuel travels from the tank through this module and filtration before reaching the high-pressure pump. Go-Parts lists $450–$700 for a new OEM DFCM, $200–$400 for an aftermarket unit, and $250–$400 for labor.
A DFCM replacement estimate cannot be used for an engine-mounted HPFP. The assemblies perform different jobs, are located in different places, and have very different failure consequences. A low-pressure module may be replaced without replacing injectors and rails, but the shop still needs to verify fuel quality, filter condition, wiring, pressure, and whether a second fault caused the symptom.
High-pressure fuel pump
The HPFP is mechanically driven on the engine and creates the pressure used by the common-rail injection system. S&S Diesel Motorsport identifies the Bosch CP4.2 as the pump used on 2011–2025 Ford Super Duty trucks equipped with the 6.7L Power Stroke; that is a dated fitment statement, so the exact truck application should be confirmed before parts are ordered.

The 2008–2010 6.4L guide discusses a Siemens K16 high-pressure pump. Its labor and repair estimates should not be transferred to a 6.7L truck. Parts catalogs, engine codes, production date, and VIN are needed to establish the correct assembly.
Why an HPFP failure can become a five-figure repair
Ford describes the common-rail fuel path as tank, fuel-conditioning module and filtration, high-pressure pump, rail, and injectors. If water causes corrosion or a failing pump sheds metal, particles can move through that high-pressure system. Ford product information warns that diesel fuel can contain water and that water must be kept out of the pumps to prevent corrosion and pump failure. It also cautions that metal debris from contaminated diesel fuel can require replacement of all parts in the high-pressure system.
That does not mean every pump failure requires every injector or the entire system. The deciding issue is evidence of contamination and where it traveled. S&S says a pump-only repair may be possible when inspection shows the failure was isolated before debris spread. If metal is found downstream, the affected list may include:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- High-pressure pump and fuel-control actuator or metering components
- Injectors
- Fuel rails and high-pressure lines
- Return plumbing and low-pressure supply components
- Fuel filters and the filter housing
- Tank, pickup, and sending unit
Cleaning or replacing only the visible pump while leaving contaminated lines or a tank in service can allow remaining particles to damage the replacement. Conversely, replacing every component without documented contamination can add unnecessary cost. The repair plan should follow the inspection results.

What symptoms can—and cannot—tell you
Hard starting, low power, stalling, low rail pressure, or a no-start condition can accompany fuel-pump problems, but symptoms alone do not prove which pump failed or whether metal reached the injectors. Electrical faults, a restricted filter, air or water in fuel, sensor problems, wiring, and other fuel-system issues can produce similar signs.
S&S advises avoiding repeated restarting when a CP4 failure is suspected because continued cranking can circulate more fuel through the system. Arrange diagnosis by a qualified diesel technician rather than trying to identify contamination from a symptom or a generic code alone.
How a shop should establish the repair scope
- Record the truck identity. Provide model year, engine, drive configuration, mileage, and VIN. Ford recommends VIN-based parts lookup for accurate fitment.
- Verify the complaint. The technician should document starting behavior, rail-pressure data, fuel-pressure readings, diagnostic codes, filter condition, and any recent fueling or maintenance event.
- Separate low- and high-pressure testing. Confirm whether the DFCM/lift-pump side is delivering fuel and whether the HPFP can generate the required rail pressure.
- Inspect for contamination. Examine the fuel-control actuator or metering area, filters, drained fuel, and accessible high-pressure components for metallic material or water. The exact inspection method depends on the engine and shop equipment.
- Map where debris traveled. If metal is present, ask which components contain evidence and which will be cleaned, replaced, or flushed. A blanket statement that “the whole system” is bad is not a substitute for a documented scope.
- Get a written estimate. Require separate lines for diagnosis, pump, filters, injectors, rails, lines, tank or sending-unit work, fluids, programming, disposal, taxes, and labor. Ask what happens if additional contamination is found after disassembly.
- Confirm post-repair validation. The quote should state how the shop will prime the system, clear air, verify rail pressure, check for leaks, and confirm starting and road performance.
6.7L DFCM replacement: what the quoted numbers mean
The Go-Parts 2011–2016 estimate breaks the DFCM job into a component and labor rather than a single installed price. At the listed ranges, the arithmetic orientation is approximately $700–$1,100 for an OEM module plus labor, or approximately $450–$800 for an aftermarket module plus labor, before taxes, fees, diagnosis, and related parts. Those combinations are calculated from the guide’s separate ranges; they are not a quoted national installed price.

Confirm whether the estimate includes a new filter or water separator, fuel-system priming, diagnostic time, and disposal of contaminated fuel. Also ask why the module failed. Water, a restricted filter, wiring, a relay, a connector, or a tank-side problem may need attention so the replacement does not suffer the same fault.

6.4L Power Stroke: pump-only versus catastrophic repair
For 2008–2010 6.4L Power Stroke trucks, Go-Parts lists $1,500–$2,500 in pump-only shop labor. That range excludes the pump itself and any injectors, rails, lines, filters, tank work, or additional diagnosis.
The same guide estimates $6,000–$10,000 or more for a catastrophic full-system repair. That higher range reflects a materially different job: a high-pressure failure with contamination that requires broad component replacement or cleaning. It should not be presented as the normal cost of every 6.4L pump replacement, and it should not be used to price a 6.7L truck.

Ask the shop to identify whether the proposed part is new OEM, remanufactured, aftermarket, or used; what warranty applies; whether the warranty requires installation by a professional; and whether it covers consequential damage from contamination. A lower purchase price can be outweighed by repeat labor if the part fails or the original contamination is not resolved.
Questions to ask before approving the job
- Which pump failed: the frame-mounted DFCM/lift pump or the engine-mounted HPFP?
- What test proves that diagnosis?
- Was metal or water found, and in exactly which components?
- Is this estimate pump-only, or does it include filters, lines, rails, injectors, tank work, and flushing?
- Which parts are new, remanufactured, aftermarket, or used?
- What are the labor hours and shop rate, and which items are allowances rather than fixed prices?
- What additional authorization is required if disassembly reveals more debris?
- What warranty covers the parts and the labor?
- How will the shop verify clean fuel, correct pressure, leak-free operation, and a successful road test?
How to interpret a quote without overpaying—or under-repairing
A low quote may be legitimate when testing shows an isolated DFCM or HPFP fault and clean fuel. It may also omit diagnosis, filters, priming, taxes, or the labor needed to access difficult components. A high quote may reflect a documented contaminated system rather than an inflated pump price. Compare estimates by scope, not by the largest number on the first page.
Request photos or retained parts when practical, and ask the technician to explain any metal finding in plain language. If one estimate includes injectors and a tank while another lists only a pump, they are not competing offers for the same repair. Have both shops state the contamination evidence and the components included before comparing totals.
Preventing fuel-system damage
Ford’s fuel-system information emphasizes keeping water out of diesel fuel because water can corrode pumps and contribute to failure. Follow the maintenance schedule for the truck’s fuel filters and water separator, drain water according to the owner’s manual instructions, and investigate a water-in-fuel warning rather than continuing to drive normally. Use clean, known-quality fuel and keep receipts if a fueling event may be relevant to a later diagnosis.
These practices reduce risk but cannot guarantee that a pump will not fail. When a high-pressure failure is suspected, prompt diagnosis can help determine whether the fault remains isolated or whether continued operation has circulated debris.
Bottom line for budgeting
Budget from the pump type and confirmed scope, not from the phrase “Ford diesel fuel pump.” For a 2011–2016 6.7L DFCM, the published component and labor ranges point to a much smaller repair than an HPFP contamination event. For 2008–2010 6.4L trucks, published figures distinguish $1,500–$2,500 in pump-only labor from $6,000–$10,000-plus catastrophic repair. For a contaminated 6.7L CP4 system, S&S Diesel Motorsport’s August 18, 2026 estimate is approximately $10,000–$15,000. Treat each as a source-specific planning range and obtain a VIN-confirmed, written diagnosis before ordering parts.
