Ford will design them, the companies will develop them together, and Renault Group will build them in northern France. The first is expected in showrooms in early 2028; the announcement does not give a date for the second.
What did Ford and Renault announce?
The companies announced a strategic cooperation on December 9, 2025. Its signed passenger-car agreement covers two distinct Ford-branded electric vehicles for European customers. It is not a merger or takeover, and no named Renault model has been announced as a donor vehicle.
Ford-hosted materials clarify that “partnership” describes general cooperation; it does not mean the companies are forming a legal partnership entity or sharing financial or legal risk.
Who will design, develop and build the cars?
- Design: Ford.
- Development: Renault Group and Ford together.
- Platform: Renault Group’s Ampere platform.
- Manufacturing: Renault Group, at its ElectriCity operation in northern France.
The announcement does not identify a specific Renault model or provide technical detail about the Ampere platform configuration the cars will use.

When will the new Ford electric cars arrive?
The first vehicle is expected in showrooms in early 2028. That is an expectation, not a guaranteed on-sale or delivery date. The companies have not announced timing for the second car.
Will Ford and Renault make electric vans together?
Not as a finalized production program. The companies signed a letter of intent to explore jointly developing and manufacturing selected Ford- and Renault-branded light commercial vehicles in Europe. The announcement does not confirm that those vehicles will be developed or built.

Will the Ford-Renault EVs be cheaper?
The announcement provides no prices, cost-reduction target or evidence that the cars will be cheaper for buyers. Renault Group and Ford say the cooperation is intended to combine Renault’s EV platform and manufacturing capacity with Ford’s design and driving-dynamics expertise, with the aim of improving competitiveness in Europe. Those are company-stated goals, not demonstrated savings or a price promise.
Renault Group reported 2.265 million vehicles sold in 2024. That company-wide figure offers context about Renault’s scale; it is not a production forecast for the Ford cars or a measure of savings from the agreement.

What has not been announced?
The December 9, 2025 announcement names neither car and gives no prices, body styles, battery capacities, driving ranges, charging figures, production volumes or investment amounts. Without those details, it is not yet possible to compare the vehicles with alternatives or assess their value, practicality or performance.

Renault Group CEO François Provost said the cooperation would draw on the companies’ strengths to make them “more innovative and more responsive” in a changing European market. Ford president and CEO Jim Farley said the companies would combine Renault’s industrial scale and EV assets with Ford’s design and driving-dynamics expertise to create vehicles that are “distinctly Ford in spirit.” These statements describe the companies’ ambitions, not independently verified results.
