Ford’s 7.3L Godzilla is a naturally aspirated, port-injected gasoline V8 used in Super Duty trucks and sold by Ford Performance as a crate engine. The standard M-6007-73B is rated at 430 hp and 485 lb-ft; the upgraded naturally aspirated MEGAZILLA is rated at 612 hp and 670 lb-ft. Those are different engines, and neither crate listing is a complete, generally road-legal swap package.
What is Ford’s 7.3L Godzilla V8?
Godzilla is Ford’s name for its 7.3L gasoline V8: a pushrod, cam-in-block design with overhead valves (OHV), port fuel injection and variable cam timing (VCT). Ford Performance identifies the standard crate engine, part number M-6007-73B, as the 7.3L engine from the 2024 F-250 Super Duty. Ford’s 2026 Super Duty specifications also list a production 7.3L PFI V8.

For the production engine in Ford’s 2026 Super Duty specifications, the published rating is 430 hp at 5,500 rpm and 485 lb-ft at 4,000 rpm. Those figures match Ford Performance’s rating for the M-6007-73B crate engine. The specifications identify the vehicle model year; they are not a guarantee that every calibration or configuration has identical output. See Ford’s 2026 Super Duty technical specifications.

Ford’s listing says the crate assembly includes a composite intake manifold with an 87 mm throttle body, exhaust manifolds, an 8-quart aluminum oil pan and cooler, coils and wires, a production flexplate, shipping and storage cradle, and lift brackets. The listing also identifies a forged steel crankshaft and cast aluminum pistons; “forged” in the crankshaft specification should not be mistaken for forged pistons.
Ford’s online owner’s manual gives the engine’s displacement, 10.5:1 compression and firing order, and specifies a minimum of 87-octane fuel. It also gives a 1.25–1.35 mm spark-plug gap and describes coil-near-plug ignition with a spark-plug wire. These are owner-manual reference details for the applicable Ford vehicle, not a substitute for service information matched to a particular swap. See the Ford owner’s manual.

Godzilla vs. MEGAZILLA vs. MEGAZILLA 2.0
MEGAZILLA is not simply another name for the standard crate engine. Ford Performance sells M-6007-MZ73 as a distinct, upgraded naturally aspirated crate engine with different internals, airflow components and calibration needs. MEGAZILLA 2.0 refers to a separate supercharged development announced by Ford Performance in January 2025.

| Godzilla M-6007-73B | Naturally aspirated; cast-aluminum pistons, production-style intake with 87 mm throttle body, VCT | Ford Performance rating: 430 hp at 5,500 rpm and 485 lb-ft at 4,000 rpm | Ford directs buyers to Techline for standard crate-engine control-pack information. Ford marks it competition or off-highway use only. |
| MEGAZILLA M-6007-MZ73 | Naturally aspirated; CNC-ported aluminum heads, Mahle forged pistons, Callies H-beam forged connecting rods, low-profile intake, 92 mm throttle body, performance camshaft with VCT delete | Ford Performance rating: 612 hp at 5,580 rpm and 670 lb-ft at 3,920 rpm; Ford says it makes more than 500 lb-ft from 2,500 to 6,000 rpm | Ford lists control packs M-6017-73M and M-6017-73A and says custom calibration is required. Ford marks it competition or off-highway use only. |
| MEGAZILLA 2.0 | Ford’s January 30, 2025 announcement described a Gen 6 3.0L Whipple-supercharged MEGAZILLA | Ford said output was projected to exceed 1,000 hp; this is a dated projection, not a verified current production rating | Ford characterized the announced engine as competition-use only. The announcement does not establish a current production specification or crate package. |
The standard and MEGAZILLA ratings come from Ford Performance’s listings for their respective crate engines: M-6007-73B and M-6007-MZ73. The 2.0 projection comes from Ford Performance’s January 30, 2025 announcement. Do not compare those three headline numbers as if they were equivalent production ratings: they refer to distinct variants and, in the last case, a projection.

What comes with the crate engine—and what a swap still needs
A crate engine assembly is not the same as a complete, ready-to-run vehicle package. Ford’s M-6007-73B listing names possible related parts, including starter M-11000-SD73, FEAD kit M-8600-SD73, and A/C add-on M-8600-SD73AC. It directs buyers to Techline for standard crate-engine control-pack information. Those names do not establish that the listed components suit a particular chassis, transmission or installation.
Before buying, confirm the whole installation against the intended vehicle and jurisdiction. The shared bellhousing bolt pattern Ford describes for the Godzilla and Ford 4.6/5.4 and 5.0 Coyote engines is only one interface; it does not prove that a given transmission, mounts, accessories, oil pan, exhaust, wiring or calibration will work.

- Transmission and driveline: Confirm the specific transmission, bellhousing interface, flexplate or other required hardware, starter fitment, and driveline arrangement. Ford’s 2026 Super Duty specification table associates the production 7.3L with Super Duty TorqShift-G 10-speed and heavy-duty TorqShift 10-speed applications; those transmissions are not stated to be included with the crate engine.
- Physical fit: Check engine mounts, hood and firewall clearance, oil-pan clearance over the crossmember, exhaust routing, cooling, and accessory drive for the target chassis.
- Fuel, controls and calibration: Determine which control pack, harness, sensors, throttle, fuel delivery and calibration the exact engine and vehicle require. For MEGAZILLA, Ford explicitly requires custom calibration and lists two control-pack part numbers; do not assume standard Godzilla control information applies to it.
- Accessories and installation parts: Confirm whether the starter, FEAD, A/C components and any application-specific brackets or wiring are needed, and verify fitment rather than relying on a part name alone.
- Emissions and registration: Check the applicable rules before purchase. Ford’s crate-engine listings warn against public-road use and say installation in vehicles driven on public roads and highways is likely to violate U.S. and Canadian emissions laws.
Ford’s listing gives the warning verbatim: “This part is designed and intended for competition use only or off-highway use only.” The legality of a particular engine installation depends on the vehicle, intended use and jurisdiction; neither a crate engine nor a control pack should be assumed road-legal in general.

Aftermarket control packs are not interchangeable assurances
Control-pack features and restrictions belong to the specific supplier and product. OBR Control Systems’ November 2023 installation guide for its Godzilla crate-engine pack says the kit uses the original coils, controls cam timing and oil pressure, and reads the digital drive-by-wire throttle body. OBR also limits its products to uncontrolled/non-emissions-controlled vehicles and off-road racing vehicles, and warns against installing them in emissions-controlled vehicles. That guidance applies to OBR’s kit, not automatically to Ford packs or other aftermarket systems. See OBR’s Godzilla installation guide.

Is the 7.3 Godzilla the right swap engine?
The Godzilla is a clear choice to investigate if the target build can accommodate a large-displacement pushrod V8 and the builder can resolve packaging, transmission, controls and legal requirements. The standard M-6007-73B has a published 430-hp/485-lb-ft rating; the MEGAZILLA’s higher published rating comes with distinct hardware and an explicit custom-calibration requirement. Ford’s published ratings establish output figures, not comparative reliability, failure rates or long-term durability. Choose only after confirming application fitment and lawful intended use, rather than treating a shared bolt pattern or a peak horsepower number as proof of swap compatibility.
