On April 29, 2024, Fisker CEO Henrik Fisker told employees the company was making further workforce reductions as it considered business options, potential buyers and sources of capital. The company did not disclose how many employees were affected in that round. The stated aim was to preserve cash—not an announcement that Fisker had secured a buyer, financing or a turnaround.
What Fisker said about the April layoffs
In an internal email reported by TechCrunch on April 29, 2024, Henrik Fisker told employees the company was making further workforce reductions. He wrote that Fisker needed to “preserve cash to help keep these options available to us,” referring to the business options the company was considering.
The email framed the cuts as part of an effort to retain flexibility while Fisker explored possible transactions and capital sources. It described an intended financial strategy; it did not establish that the reductions led to a transaction, new funding or a recovery.
How many employees did Fisker lay off in April 2024?
The April 29 report did not give an exact count for that round. Two nearby figures provide context, but neither is a post-layoff headcount: TechCrunch reported that a regulatory filing showed 1,135 employees as of April 19, and that Fisker had reported $54 million in cash and equivalents as of April 16. The dates precede the April 29 announcement.

How the April cuts fit Fisker’s workforce timeline
- February 2024: Fisker announced a workforce reduction of 15%, according to TechCrunch’s February report.
- April 29, 2024: Henrik Fisker announced further reductions in an employee email. The number affected was not reported.
- May 29, 2024: TechCrunch reported another large round of cuts. One current employee and one laid-off employee estimated that about 150 employees remained; that was an employee estimate, not an official company headcount.
What happened after the layoffs
Fisker’s later bankruptcy filing records that Fisker Group Inc. began a Chapter 11 case on June 17, 2024, followed by Fisker Inc. and its other U.S. subsidiaries on June 19. Those separate commencement dates appear in Fisker Inc.’s June 24 SEC filing. The filing documents the subsequent Chapter 11 cases; it does not change what was known about the April round’s undisclosed headcount.
