Ferrari’s SC40 is a single-client Special Projects one-off whose angular design pays tribute to the F40. It is not a new production model or a remake of the original: Ferrari says its architecture, chassis and powertrain come from the 296 GTB, while the SC40 has its own distinct identity.
What is the Ferrari SC40?
Ferrari announced the SC40 on 17 October 2025 as a new One-Off from its Special Projects programme. The car was designed by the Ferrari Styling Centre under the direction of Flavio Manzoni. Ferrari describes its One-Offs as unique, tailor-made cars shaped around the wishes of a single client. The company’s 2025 annual report also lists the SC40 among the One-Offs produced that year.
That makes the SC40 a bespoke Ferrari, not a production model announced for general sale. Ferrari’s announcement does not state a price.
How does the SC40 relate to the F40?
The name explicitly honors the F40, which Ferrari says was unveiled in July 1987. The SC40 carries forward the earlier car’s sharp, angular visual character, but Ferrari says the intention was to give the new one-off its own personality rather than reproduce the F40 literally. Its resemblance is a design tribute, not a claim that it shares the F40’s mechanical layout.

Ferrari describes the SC40 as a mid-rear-engined V6 and says its architecture, chassis and powertrain come from the 296 GTB. The F40 connection is therefore principally in the name and styling; the 296 GTB is the stated mechanical basis.
Which design details make the SC40 distinctive?
Ferrari’s description emphasizes a long, low nose and short rear overhang, with angular forms softened by more flowing transitions. The most conspicuous details are concentrated at the rear:

- The Ferrari F40 comes in new colors
- The Spartan F40 has been made using a lot of carbon decals as well as the "red" in the same way
- We deliver the same quality as the "KYOSHO original 1/18 scale F40 high-grade version" that was released in the previous market
- SC40 White fixed wing: a high, fixed rear wing painted in a bespoke color developed for the car.
- Open-mesh black fascia: the rear treatment leaves mechanical and structural elements visible through the mesh.
- Smoked Lexan louvres: the rear louvres reveal the V6 beneath, with smaller louvres also placed near the rear wheel arches.
- Central exhaust: Ferrari says it was made using additive manufacturing and has titanium and carbon-fibre tips.
- 296 GTB-inspired taillights: Ferrari notes that the lights provide a visual link to the car’s mechanical donor.
These are details from Ferrari’s official design description, rather than claims based on an independent inspection or road test. Ferrari summed up the distinction this way: “The goal was not to create a literal reinterpretation, but rather a model with its own distinct personality.”
What is known about the SC40’s performance?
Ferrari’s announcement says the SC40 takes its powertrain from the 296 GTB, but the technical table attached to the release is headed “296 GTB – Technical Specifications.” Its figures describe that donor model, not independently confirmed SC40 outputs or performance. Ferrari’s material does not give SC40-specific performance figures, dimensions or a price.

For clarity, the release lists the 296 GTB’s 120-degree V6 at 2,992 cm³, with 663 cv of combustion-engine output. It also lists 610 kW (830 cv) as the 296 GTB’s maximum hybrid output in Qualify mode. Those are 296 GTB specifications; they should not be treated as measured or confirmed SC40 figures.
