Ferrari presents that engine and the car’s long-bonnet proportions as a link to its historic GTs; its eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, electronic chassis controls and digital cabin make the execution thoroughly modern. In first-drive reports, reviewers found a car capable of covering distance in comfort while responding keenly to spirited driving.
What is the Ferrari 12Cilindri?
The 12Cilindri is a two-seat Ferrari GT offered as a coupe and a Spider. Its name means “12 cylinders” in Italian, an unusually direct description of the car’s defining feature: a naturally aspirated V12 mounted at the front-mid position and driving the rear wheels. Ferrari says that layout connects the model to the marque’s front-mid-engined V12 road cars, a tradition it traces to 1947. Ferrari’s launch material frames the car as a modern interpretation of its 1950s and 1960s GTs.
The result is not a vintage-style machine mechanically. An eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and Ferrari’s SSC 8.0 electronic control system are part of the package, alongside rear-wheel steering and active rear aerodynamics. The central contrast is between a traditional engine concept and contemporary systems designed to manage performance and usability.
What does the V12 deliver?
Ferrari’s technical sheet lists a 6,496 cm³ displacement and a 65-degree V12. It quotes 830 cv at 9,250 rpm and 678 Nm of torque at 7,250 rpm, with a maximum engine speed of 9,500 rpm. The maximum-power figure is specified using 98 RON fuel and includes a 5 cv dynamic ram effect. These are manufacturer figures, not independent test results. Ferrari’s technical specifications also give an eight-speed DCT, 0–100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and a maximum speed above 340 km/h.

Ferrari lists a dry weight of 1,560 kg when optional lightweight content is fitted, and a boot capacity of 270 litres. The weight is therefore not a universal as-delivered figure; equipment and measurement conditions matter. The boot figure offers a useful reminder that this is a GT with some luggage capacity, not a practical family car.
How does the 12Cilindri drive?
A GT that can settle down
In T3’s first drive, Rory FH Smith described a car that can switch between long-distance composure and livelier driving. He pointed to a softer ride setting, massage-seat availability and the extra transmission ratio as features that support relaxed cruising. On the roads and track used for that review in Luxembourg, he also found the 12Cilindri engaging when driven harder. Those are the reviewer’s impressions, not a controlled comparison with competing cars. T3’s October 2024 review provides the context for that assessment.

Quick responses reward a smooth hand
MotorTrend’s Angus MacKenzie found the steering unusually alert at first in gentle bends, but said smooth inputs produced precise, flowing responses. He credited SSC 8.0 and rear-wheel steering with helping the driver explore the car’s handling envelope. That account suggests a GT that responds quickly rather than one that masks every input; it is a road-test impression, not a measured claim that it out-handles another model. MotorTrend’s October 2024 first drive also reports Ferrari’s claim that active rear flaps generate 110 pounds of rear downforce at 150 mph. That aero figure is Ferrari’s claim as reported by the publication.
How does its design refer to Ferrari’s past?
Ferrari describes the 12Cilindri as inspired by its 1950s and 1960s GT cars. The shape follows a familiar grand-touring idea: a long bonnet and a cabin set well back. T3 links the design context to the 250 GT, 275 GTB and 365 GTB Daytona, as well as the wedge-shaped 1970 Modulo concept. Ferrari design chief Flavio Manzoni discussed the proportions in T3’s coverage, which called the result a striking departure and noted that it divided opinion at the car’s May 2024 Miami presentation. T3’s design and first-drive coverage captures that response.

The heritage reference is therefore more than a retro styling exercise: Ferrari also points to the naturally aspirated front-mid V12 as a thread through its road-car history. But the car does not reproduce an earlier model. Its active aerodynamics, electronic controls and modern cabin make the historical cues part of a contemporary GT.
What is the cabin like?
T3 describes a dual-cockpit layout with three displays: a 10.25-inch central screen, a 15.6-inch driver display and an 8.8-inch passenger display. The arrangement gives the front passenger a screen of their own while retaining a prominent instrument display for the driver.

T3’s reviewer criticized the reliance on touch controls, finding them difficult to operate while moving. That is a usability judgment from the review, rather than a measured assessment shared by every driver. The practical trade-off is clear: the screen-led cabin looks current, but the interaction style may be less straightforward on the move than physical controls.

Who is the 12Cilindri for?
The 12Cilindri makes most sense for a buyer seeking a two-seat GT whose naturally aspirated V12 is central to the experience. Its long-distance comfort equipment and the first-drive reports of composed cruising speak to touring use; the high-revving engine, rear-wheel drive and responsive chassis systems speak to drivers who also want an involving car on a demanding road. The historic design references are part of the appeal, but the cabin and control systems are modern rather than nostalgic.
It is less useful to judge the car by a single headline number or by styling alone. The manufacturer’s performance figures describe capability, while road impressions describe how two reviewers experienced the car in specific settings. Buyers should also distinguish the coupe from the Spider and treat the published prices as dated regional launch figures rather than today’s order price.
