The title “F1: Shocking Fernando Alonso Onboard Footage From Japanese GP” does not identify a year or a specific video. If it refers to the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka, Alonso’s Ferrari retired with an electrical problem during the safety-car restart phase. Jules Bianchi’s crash happened later; the official race report does not establish that Alonso’s onboard camera recorded it.
Which Japanese Grand Prix onboard footage is this?
There is more than one plausible match. Formula 1’s official video catalog lists “Top 10 Onboard Moments: 2022 Japanese Grand Prix,” published 11 October 2022. It describes a rain-hit race and a dramatic finish involving Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso. The listing does not say it is the clip named in this article’s title, nor does it identify footage of Alonso’s 2014 retirement.
So the year and original video matter. The 2014 race report explains Alonso’s retirement and the later crash at Suzuka, but it cannot establish what a particular onboard camera captured.
What happened to Fernando Alonso at the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix?
The FIA reported that heavy rain forced the 2014 race to start behind the safety car. Conditions then became undriveable, prompting a stoppage. After a 20-minute delay, the race restarted behind the safety car. During that restart phase, Alonso’s Ferrari suffered a sudden power loss attributed to an electrical problem, ending his race.

The FIA’s official 2014 Japanese Grand Prix race classification lists Alonso 22nd after two laps. The FIA race report gives “Electronics” as the retirement reason.
Does Alonso’s onboard show the Bianchi crash?
The official chronology does not support that conclusion. Alonso retired during the restart phase; Bianchi’s crash occurred later in the race. Adrian Sutil had gone off at Turn 7, and a recovery vehicle was sent to remove his stranded Sauber. A lap later, Bianchi went off at the same location and appeared to collide with the vehicle.

The safety car and medical car were dispatched, and officials red-flagged the race on lap 47 without resuming it. The result was counted back to lap 44. The FIA report establishes this sequence, but it does not show that Alonso’s onboard camera captured Bianchi’s incident. Unless the original clip is verified, it would be misleading to describe the footage as showing the crash.

Start with the video’s original publisher and its year, then compare the content with the event it claims to show. Formula 1’s 2022 onboard listing is an official example involving Alonso, but it is a separate race compilation and does not identify the title’s footage. The linked listing leads to F1 TV; it does not establish availability of a particular 2014 onboard clip.
