If “fastest” means highest published top speed, the 2025 Kia K4 is the clearest under-$30,000 candidate in the available evidence: The Drive lists 124 mph for its 2.0-liter model and 130 mph for the turbo. But those figures do not establish a definitive market-wide winner, and Kia’s $21,990 starting MSRP does not prove that every turbo trim costs less than $30,000. Here is what the published figures and manufacturer prices actually support.
What “fastest” means in this comparison
This comparison uses maximum speed, not 0–60 mph acceleration, horsepower, or a general impression of sportiness. The figures below are published specifications attributed to their sources; the available sources do not establish a shared test protocol, so they should not be treated as results from a direct, like-for-like test.
For price, “under $30,000” refers to the stated MSRP when the source gives a trim-specific price. A starting MSRP only establishes the entry price for a model line; it does not show that a higher trim, optional equipment, or the final transaction price stays below the budget. Taxes, title, registration, destination, and dealer charges can also change what a buyer pays.
The strongest documented 2025 candidate: Kia K4
The Drive’s 2025 Kia K4 review specifications list a top speed of 124 mph for the 2.0-liter model and 130 mph for the 1.6-liter turbo configuration. Car and Driver also reports 124 mph for its reviewed non-turbo K4. These are media-published specifications, not official top-speed claims from Kia. The Drive’s K4 review and Car and Driver’s K4 review provide the model-specific figures.

Kia announced a $21,990 starting MSRP for the 2025 K4. That confirms the model line begins below $30,000, but it does not establish the price of the turbo trim or of any particular optioned configuration. Check the exact trim’s MSRP and applicable charges before treating the 130-mph version as budget-qualified. Kia’s 2025 K4 pricing announcement states the starting price.

Why the Volkswagen Jetta figure is not a 2025 winner
A Consumer Reports buying-guide excerpt surfaced with a 135-mph figure for a Jetta 1.5T. The excerpt does not establish the car’s model year or whether the price basis matches this comparison, so it cannot verify that a 2025 Jetta qualifies. Treat 135 mph as an unconfirmed lead for a different or unspecified model-year entry—not as proof that a new 2025 Jetta under $30,000 is the fastest. Consumer Reports’ Jetta buying guide.

How to use these figures when shopping
- Match the model year and engine. A top-speed number for one generation or engine does not automatically apply to another. For the K4, the cited figures differ between the 2.0-liter and turbo configurations.
- Confirm the exact trim price. A model’s starting MSRP is not the price of every engine or trim. Verify that the configuration associated with the speed figure fits your budget, then account for destination and other charges.
- Compare source and method. These are published specifications from different sources, not results of a common test. Do not interpret small differences as a controlled head-to-head result.
- Keep speed separate from acceleration. A car may accelerate quickly without having the highest maximum speed, and horsepower alone cannot fill a missing top-speed specification.
