The fastest electric motorcycle record set in 2024 was a different achievement: Ohio State’s RW-5 Voxan averaged 180.065 mph (289.787 km/h) over a flying kilometre in the sub-150-kg class.
What was the fastest electric motorcycle in the world?
For the overall prototype record, Guinness World Records lists the Voxan Wattman at 455.737 km/h (283.182 mph). Max Biaggi rode it at the Kennedy Space Shuttle Landing Facility in Florida on 1 December 2021. It was a land-speed record, not a top-speed specification for a road-going production motorcycle. Guinness World Records’ Wattman listing identifies the vehicle and result.
Voxan rounds the Wattman result to 456 km/h (283 mph). Its record page also separates results by weight class, distance, start type and streamlining. For example, it lists 456 km/h for a partially streamlined flying-kilometre run in the under-300-kg category, and 370 km/h for a non-streamlined flying-kilometre run in that class. Those are distinct record configurations, not interchangeable measures of a standard motorcycle’s top speed. Voxan’s record page provides the manufacturer’s category breakdown.
Which electric motorcycle set a record in 2024?
In 2024, the Ohio State RW-5 Voxan set Guinness World Records’ fastest average speed over a flying kilometre in the sub-150-kg electric motorcycle class: 180.065 mph (289.787 km/h). Louis-Marie Blondel rode it at Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah, on 6 August 2024. The result is a class record measured over a flying kilometre; it is not the overall electric-motorcycle record or an unqualified maximum-speed claim.

Guinness says the RW-5 was designed from the ground up as a land-speed racer. The machine weighed 148 kg (326 lb) and used a 130 kW (174 hp) Beyond Motors AXM2 axial-flux motor. These figures describe the record-setting racer, not a retail model. Guinness World Records’ 2024 class record gives the result and vehicle details.
Why do speed records and top-speed claims differ?
“Fastest” can refer to an official land-speed record, a record within a defined class, a manufacturer’s claim or the specification of a road-legal production bike. A meaningful comparison needs to identify what was measured and under which conditions.

- Authority: Is the number listed by Guinness World Records, or is it a manufacturer’s claim?
- Vehicle and weight class: Is it a prototype racer, a sub-150-kg entry or a road-going production model?
- Run format: Was the speed measured over a flying or standing start, and across what distance?
- Configuration: Was the motorcycle streamlined or non-streamlined?
- Claim type: Is the figure a measured record result or a manufacturer-listed top-speed specification?
Voxan’s 9 September 2024 announcement says the Wattman “remains the fastest electric motorcycle in the world.” That is the manufacturer’s framing of its overall claim; it does not make the Ohio State team’s separate 2024 class record an overall record. Voxan’s announcement describes the distinction.

No such conclusion follows from the RW-5 record: it is a purpose-built land-speed racer, not a mass-market model. Production-bike top-speed specifications are a separate comparison. For context, Zero Motorcycles lists a 124 mph top speed for its 2024 SR/S, but that single example does not establish a complete ranking of production electric motorcycles for 2024. Zero’s 2024 SR/S page gives that model’s listed figure.
