A 2024 Miami Grand Prix fan posted a photo captioned, “This is what $20 got you,” pushing back against viral images of expensive race-weekend food. The SportsRush described the meal as black beans, rice, plantains and chicken. It was one fan’s reported purchase—not a price guide for the whole circuit—and it offered a useful contrast to a much-shared $280 lobster roll that the event’s managing partner said was a suite order intended for about 10 people.
What the fan’s $20 example showed
On May 9, 2024, The SportsRush linked the discussion to a Reddit post by u/carloselcoco titled “With all the talk regarding the Miami GP food prices being posted out of context. This is what $20 got you.” The report described the pictured meal as black beans with rice, plantains and chicken. The Reddit image itself is not independently verifiable here, so those food details are attributable to the report.
The post was a single fan’s example from the 2024 event. It shows that a meal at that price was reported, but does not establish that $20 was the usual price, that every fan could find the same meal, or what an average visitor spent.
Why the $280 lobster roll was a different comparison
The viral food-price debate also centered on a $280 lobster roll. Autosport quoted Miami GP managing partner Tom Garfinkel saying the image lacked context: it was a suite order, and he believed it was probably intended for 10 people. He also said the event offered lower-priced concessions alongside more expensive hospitality food. Those were the promoter’s comments, not an independent survey of prices or serving sizes across the venue.

- Official Miami GP Branding: Features exclusive Miami-inspired graphics and official McLaren Racing logos for an authentic race-day look.
- Premium Cotton Build: Crafted from high-quality 100% cotton fabric to provide a soft feel and long-lasting durability.
- Comfortable Regular Fit: Designed with a unisex, regular-fit silhouette and a classic crew neck for a relaxed and flattering style.

The comparison turns on two details that a price alone leaves out: where food is sold and how many people an order serves.
| Example | Venue or context | Price and serving information | What the evidence establishes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fan’s reported meal | Reddit post about the 2024 Miami GP; the report does not specify a more precise venue area | $20, as stated in the post title; individual serving size not independently established | A contemporaneous report described the meal as black beans, rice, plantains and chicken. It is one example, not an event-wide price survey. |
| Lobster roll | Suite, according to managing partner Tom Garfinkel as quoted by Autosport | $280; Garfinkel said it was probably for 10 people | His explanation supplies hospitality and sharing context for the viral image; it does not establish all suite or concession prices. |
Where the 2024 food was sold
The 2024 Miami Grand Prix ran May 3–5 at the Miami International Autodrome, within the Hard Rock Stadium complex in Miami Gardens, according to the FIA’s official media kit. The event also had a Community Restaurant Program. Formula 1 reported that 10 local businesses were invited to sell inside the circuit that year: four first-time participants and six returning vendors.

That program documents local restaurant participation, not a promise that food was inexpensive or that every area had the same menu. In announcing the program, Kim Miller, the Miami Dolphins, Hard Rock Stadium and Miami Grand Prix’s vice president of community affairs, said: “Community is ingrained in who we are and what we do here, but for us, it’s not just about race weekend.”

- Venue matters: a general concession and a suite or hospitality menu are different contexts for interpreting a price.
- Portion matters: a high-priced order described as serving a group is not directly comparable to one person’s meal.
- One post is not a survey: the $20 example illustrates a reported purchase, not the full range or average cost of food at the race.
- These are historical figures: the examples concern the May 2024 event and do not establish current Miami GP menus or prices.
The contemporaneous accounts are The SportsRush (fan’s $20 meal report), Autosport (Garfinkel’s explanation of the lobster roll), Formula 1 (2024 community restaurant program) and the FIA (2024 Miami Grand Prix media kit).
