Wyoming offers fall ATV riding, but the rental sources reviewed do not confirm any electric ATV rentals or tours. You can plan an off-road trip in an ATV or UTV, but verify the vehicle type, trail access and current conditions before booking. One Sheridan outfitter advertises electric dirt bikes; those are not electric ATVs.
Can you rent an electric ATV in Wyoming?
No electric ATV rental or tour is verified by the available Wyoming operator listings. Jackson Hole Adventure Rentals lists conventional Can-Am Outlander 500 ATVs from Alpine, while Bomber Mountain Adventures in Sheridan advertises ATV and UTV rentals alongside e-dirt-bike rentals. The latter’s electric dirt bikes should not be mistaken for ATVs.
If electric power is essential, contact outfitters directly and ask for the vehicle’s exact type and powertrain before reserving. For any rental, confirm whether it is an ATV ridden astride or a side-by-side UTV, and ask about format, age and licensing requirements, included safety gear, and the trails available on your dates.
Where can you ride in Wyoming?
Travel Wyoming lists recreation settings that include the Bighorn, Shoshone and Black Hills national forests, Killpecker Sand Dunes, and Buffalo Bill State Park. It reports over 640 miles of trails; the page does not display a publication year for that figure and was accessed in 2026. That statewide total does not mean every trail is open to every vehicle.

Trail eligibility depends on the specific route, vehicle, land manager and current designation. Wyoming State Trails says ORV travel must remain on enrolled trails, and restrictions may apply seasonally. Check the current map and confirm route access with the relevant land manager before riding.
What is fall riding season like?
There is no single statewide fall calendar for ATV access. Jackson Hole Adventure Rentals says its season begins in May with limited access, full-day trail systems open at the beginning of June, and trails begin closing in October due to snow. That is the operator’s description for its own rentals and area, not a statewide schedule; it also advises preparing for colder conditions.
Wyoming State Trails says seasonal restrictions apply to enrolled trails and routes, with exact dates varying. Travel Wyoming describes the ORV season as typically April 1 through mid-December, but actual access depends on the route and current conditions. Before traveling, check the specific trail’s status, weather, local fire restrictions and closure notices. Wyoming’s current alerts page notes that late summer and early fall can bring heat and dry conditions that increase wildfire risk, and that restrictions and closures can change quickly.

Permits, roads and legal access
Travel Wyoming says ORV permits are required on enrolled roads, routes and designated ORV trails. Check permit requirements for your destination and vehicle before setting out, along with the current map and land-manager rules.

Wyoming’s 2026 statutes include certain four-wheeled off-road vehicles ridden astride within the motorcycle definition and restrict operation of defined off-road recreational vehicles on public streets and highways, subject to statutory exceptions. Classification depends on the vehicle and statutory definitions; confirm the rules for your vehicle and planned route with the relevant authority.
Gear, safety and responsible riding
- Wear a helmet. Wyoming State Trails strongly advises ATV/MPV operators and riders to wear helmets. Bomber Mountain Adventures requires riders on its rental machines to wear DOT-approved helmets.
- Ask what the rental includes. Jackson Hole Adventure Rentals says helmets and goggles are included with its rentals. It recommends long pants and closed-toed shoes or boots and warns that weather can change quickly. Confirm equipment with your own outfitter rather than assuming another operator’s package applies.
- Stay on designated trails. Wyoming State Trails’ map directs ORV travel to enrolled trails. Wyoming Game and Fish Department regional wildlife supervisor Jason Hunter advises: “People should stick to trails and choose to walk to areas without a path rather than driving.”
- Check conditions shortly before departure. Review trail closures, fire restrictions and weather for the specific area, since access and restrictions can change.
