The ioCamper was described in 2018 as a prototype module carried inside a large van and expanded at camp into a shelter that could stand apart from the vehicle. Its unusual selling point was flexibility: leave the sleeping space behind and use the van during the day, or keep part of the camper attached for a smaller, quicker-to-set-up arrangement.
How the ioCamper was designed to work
New Atlas reported on September 19, 2018, that ioCamper was a prototype camper module transported inside a large van. At camp, the module could slide outward and become a freestanding shelter, separating the living and sleeping space from the vehicle. That meant the van could be driven for daytime activities without taking the shelter along.

The report also described a vehicle-attached configuration. In that layout, the front bedroom stayed inside the van while two side rooms extended beyond its rear. Compared with the standalone arrangement, this kept part of the sleeping area in the vehicle and was described as having a smaller footprint and quicker setup. What was inside the prototype
Kitchen and bathroom
The reported T-shaped interior combined a kitchen block with a bathroom. The kitchen was described with a dual-burner stove, sink and refrigerator. The bathroom included a toilet, shower and sink, with a privacy curtain around it.

Sleeping and dining areas
The main living area converted into a bedroom with a reported bed measuring 75 by 31 inches (190 by 80 cm). The opposite room had a dining area for four and a second bed of the same reported dimensions. New Atlas described four sleeping berths in total.
Touchscreen controls
A 23-inch touchscreen served as the control center, according to the report. It was described as controlling lighting, refrigerator and climate settings, while displaying battery and water levels.

New Atlas attributed a five-to-ten-minute setup estimate to ioCamper, depending on whether the module was deployed as a standalone shelter or attached to the vehicle. The report said the automatic slide-out hardware was activated from a smart device connected to the ioCamper’s Wi-Fi network. The published account did not provide independent testing of the setup-time estimate, so it should be understood as the maker’s reported estimate, not a verified result.
Was ioCamper available to buy?
The 2018 report said a prototype had been developed and the team was seeking funding to take the project to its next stage. That is historical status, not evidence of a current production model. Current sales, specifications, compatible accessories, replacement parts and repair options are not established by the available information.
