The 2026 Yamaha Kodiak 450 is a mid-size utility ATV with a 421cc fuel-injected engine, Ultramatic automatic transmission and selectable 2WD/4WD. In the United States, Yamaha lists three versions: the standard Kodiak 450, Kodiak 450 EPS and Kodiak 450 EPS XT-R. They differ in price, listed wet weight and equipment, so the right choice depends on the work and terrain you expect—not just the trim name.
Yamaha’s current model pages establish the 2026 lineup and its features, but do not provide a reliable year-over-year change list. “New” here refers to the 2026 model year, not a confirmed redesign.
2026 Kodiak 450 models and listed prices
Yamaha lists these U.S. starting MSRPs for the 2026 model year. The figures are not dealer quotes: Yamaha says MSRP excludes tax, license, registration, destination and dealer-installed options or accessories, and that specifications and prices may change.

Yamaha lists the same headline dimensions for the standard and EPS models: 33.7-inch seat height and 48.8-inch wheelbase. The XT-R page’s listed wet weight is 680 lb; do not assume the standard model’s 637 lb or the EPS model’s 650 lb applies to every trim.

What the Kodiak 450’s main features mean
421cc fuel-injected engine
The 421cc engine and fuel injection are common headline specifications in Yamaha’s U.S. model descriptions. Displacement alone does not establish how the ATV performs under a particular load or on a specific trail; match the machine to your intended use and check the owner’s manual for operating limits.
Ultramatic automatic transmission
Yamaha identifies the Kodiak’s Ultramatic as an automatic transmission. That avoids manual gear shifting during ordinary riding, but it does not remove the need to learn the controls and follow the manual’s guidance for operating on slopes, towing or carrying loads.

On-Command 2WD/4WD
On-Command lets the rider select 2WD or 4WD. It is a selectable drivetrain feature, not a promise that the ATV can safely cross every obstacle or surface. Use the manual’s instructions and ride within your ability and the terrain’s limits.
How to choose between standard, EPS and EPS XT-R
Standard Kodiak 450
The standard version has the lowest listed starting MSRP of the three. Consider it if you want the Kodiak’s utility-oriented drivetrain and do not specifically want the EPS trim’s steering assistance or equipment. Compare the final dealer quote and included equipment rather than treating the starting price as the amount you will pay.

Kodiak 450 EPS
EPS adds electric power steering, and Yamaha’s EPS page also highlights full-length skid plates. The listed starting MSRP is $1,000 above the standard model, and its listed wet weight is 13 lb higher. Whether the added steering assistance is worth the price and weight difference depends on your workload, terrain and personal preference; the specifications alone do not establish a universal advantage.
Kodiak 450 EPS XT-R
The EPS XT-R has a listed starting MSRP $500 above the EPS model and a listed wet weight 30 lb higher. Confirm the precise equipment included on the current XT-R page and in the dealer’s written quote before comparing it with the other trims.

Questions to ask before buying
- What work, loads and terrain do you expect to handle?
- Would electric power steering matter for your use enough to justify its added listed cost and weight?
- Which protective or utility equipment is included on the exact trim being quoted?
- What does the dealer’s out-the-door price include, including destination, taxes, registration, options and accessories?
- Is the model available in your area, and are the quoted specifications and price current?
Utility equipment and accessories
Yamaha’s 2026 ATV lineup announcement identifies steel cargo racks and a 2-inch receiver on the Kodiak 450. The EPS product page also describes independent double wishbone suspension with adjustable shocks, full-length skid plates and nearly 10 inches of ground clearance.
Yamaha lists a front brush guard, heavy-duty front grab bar and utility ATV rigid cargo boxes among its accessories. Before ordering any accessory, verify its fitment for the specific model year and trim with Yamaha or a dealer; a general accessory listing does not establish compatibility with every Kodiak 450.

U.S. specifications versus European-market details
Yamaha’s European 2026 factsheet describes a 421cc EFI engine, Ultramatic CVT, On-Command 2WD/4WD, KYB gas-charged shocks, 171mm front and 189mm rear suspension travel, and 25-inch tires (AT25x8-12 front, AT25x10-12 rear). These are European-market factsheet details, not verified specifications for U.S. trims. U.S. shoppers should use the U.S. model page and dealer documentation for the machine they are considering.

Yamaha advises riders to read the owner’s manual and warning labels, wear a helmet, eye protection and protective clothing, avoid paved surfaces and public roads, and take an approved training course.
