It was a model-level award recipient in J.D. Power’s 2026 Vehicle Dependability Study, and Consumer Reports included the UX among the most reliable luxury small SUVs in its 2026 coverage. The NX Hybrid is the evidence-backed next step when you need more room. No available comparison proves one Lexus hybrid SUV is the most reliable across every size and powertrain.
Which Lexus hybrid SUV has the strongest reliability evidence?
The UX 300h has the clearest case, but the evidence is not a direct head-to-head test of every current Lexus hybrid SUV. J.D. Power’s 2026 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study named the UX a model-level award recipient. The study surveyed 33,268 original owners of 2023 model-year vehicles after three years of ownership, so its findings are useful for dependability but do not directly measure every 2026 vehicle or powertrain. J.D. Power’s 2026 study also ranked Lexus highest among premium brands, at 151 problems per 100 vehicles (PP100)—a brand result, not a UX-specific score.
Consumer Reports’ 2026 reliability coverage also named the UX and NX Hybrid among the most reliable luxury small SUVs. Its predictions draw on annual member-survey data. The reported segment positions are favorable, but they do not provide a complete numeric ranking of all Lexus hybrid SUVs on a single, comparable scale. Consumer Reports’ 2026 luxury SUV coverage also says the TX leads its luxury midsized three-row SUV category; that category result is not proof that the TX is more reliable than the UX or NX.
How the Lexus hybrid SUVs differ
Lexus’ current U.S. lineup spans several vehicle sizes and electrified powertrains. A small crossover is not a substitute for a three-row SUV, and evidence for one type of hybrid should not automatically be applied to another. Check the model year and exact grade before buying, because availability can change.

For the UX 300h, Lexus lists 196 total system horsepower for the 2026 model and a 43 mpg combined EPA estimate for the front-wheel-drive version. What the reliability studies do—and do not—show
Dependability studies look back at owners’ experience
J.D. Power’s 2026 results reflect three years of ownership of 2023 model-year vehicles. That makes the study relevant to established vehicles, but it cannot settle how a newer model year or materially different hybrid system will perform over time. The UX award is model-level evidence; Lexus’ 151 PP100 score is brand-level evidence. Neither is a promise about an individual car.

Reliability predictions combine survey data and estimates
Consumer Reports uses annual member-survey data to make reliability predictions. Its 2026 article offers useful category context for the UX, NX Hybrid, and TX, but not a complete, apples-to-apples scorecard for every Lexus hybrid SUV. Treat the study as one input rather than a guarantee.
Historical results are context, not a current-model ranking
J.D. Power’s 2024 study included the NX and RX among model-level segment award recipients. Its 2025 study reported 199 PP100 for conventional hybrids and 242 PP100 for plug-in hybrids across the powertrain categories it compared. Choose by space and powertrain, not reliability headlines alone
- Choose UX 300h if a compact crossover meets your passenger and cargo needs and you want the strongest model-specific evidence in this comparison.
- Choose NX Hybrid if you need more room than the UX and want a model highlighted by Consumer Reports’ 2026 coverage. The plug-in hybrid NX is a different use case from the conventional hybrid.
- Consider RX if you need a midsize SUV. Its historical J.D. Power recognition and Consumer Reports’ 2025 model-year characterization are relevant, but neither establishes that it outranks the UX or NX Hybrid.
- Consider TX if three rows are the priority. Its Consumer Reports result is within the luxury three-row category, not a cross-class reliability victory.
- Consider LX if you need a large SUV, but do not infer a reliability ranking for its performance-hybrid grade from results for other Lexus hybrids.
Powertrain labels matter. The UX is a standard hybrid; NX and RX have hybrid and plug-in hybrid grades; TX and LX have performance-hybrid variants. A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) needs charging to make use of electric-only operation, while a conventional hybrid does not plug in. - Confirm the exact vehicle. Identify model year, trim, drivetrain, and whether it is a conventional hybrid, PHEV, or performance hybrid. Do not assume a rating for one grade applies to another.
- Check open recalls by VIN. Use the NHTSA recall lookup and confirm completion with Lexus or the selling dealer. General reliability ratings cannot establish whether a specific used vehicle has an open safety campaign.
- Review maintenance and condition. Ask for service records and arrange an independent inspection for a used example. A rating for a model year cannot account for an individual vehicle’s care or damage history.
- Verify any used-car coverage. For a Lexus Certified Pre-Owned vehicle, ask the dealer to confirm the vehicle’s eligibility and the applicable coverage in writing; Lexus describes additional included maintenance visits for L/Certified vehicles.
