For technical trails and uneven terrain, the 2026 Bronco Raptor is the strongest all-around pick: Ford publishes the clearest advantage in suspension travel, obstacle geometry and ground clearance for it. For high-speed desert driving, the F-150 Raptor R has the strongest case, led by its 720-hp supercharged V8. The F-150 Raptor is a capable desert-oriented pickup, but its engine produces less power than the Raptor R.
This ranking covers the 2026 U.S. lineup. “Raptor” here includes the Bronco Raptor, which Ford treats as a Bronco series, and the F-150 Raptor and F-150 Raptor R, which are configurations in the F-150 Raptor lineup. Ford’s published numbers support direct geometry comparisons among Bronco configurations, but do not establish one all-terrain score across the Bronco and F-150 models.
How the 2026 Ford Raptors rank off-road
| Rank | Model | Best suited to | Why it ranks here |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Bronco Raptor | Technical trails, articulation and obstacle clearance | Ford lists 13.0 inches of front and 14.0 inches of rear suspension travel, 13.1 inches of ground clearance, and the strongest published Bronco approach, breakover and departure angles. |
| 2 | F-150 Raptor R | High-speed desert use and power | Its supercharged 5.2-liter V8 is rated at 720 hp and 640 lb-ft. Ford also specifies Dual-Valve Fox Racing Shocks and 37-inch tires. |
| 3 | F-150 Raptor | Desert-oriented off-road driving | It combines a 450-hp high-output EcoBoost V6 with off-road drive aids and available 37-inch tires, but does not match the Raptor R’s power-focused case. |
This is a use-case ranking, not a claim that one model wins every obstacle. Ford’s published figures do not provide a comparable set of geometry measurements for the F-150s and Bronco, and horsepower alone does not predict slow-speed trail ability.
1. Bronco Raptor: best-supported for technical terrain
The Bronco Raptor has the strongest documented package for steep approaches, uneven ground and keeping tires in contact with the trail. Ford’s 2026 Bronco technical specifications list 47.2 degrees of approach, 30.8 degrees of breakover and 40.5 degrees of departure, along with 13.1 inches of ground clearance. Its maximum stated water-fording depth is 37.0 inches. These are manufacturer specifications, not results from an independent head-to-head test.

Geometry and suspension
Ford lists 13.0 inches of front and 14.0 inches of rear suspension travel. The HOSS 4.0 suspension uses FOX Live Valve 3.1 internal-bypass semi-active dampers, tuned separately front and rear. Ford says sensors monitor terrain and adjust damping; Ford Performance-designed control arms support the listed wheel travel. The figures describe equipment and specifications, not a guarantee that a particular obstacle is safe or passable.
Traction, protection and equipment
The 2026 Bronco order guide lists locking front and rear axles, a front stabilizer-bar disconnect, heavy-duty full-vehicle steel bash plates, rock rails with removable running boards, and front and rear tow hooks. The Bronco Raptor comes with 17-inch alloy wheels and 37-inch all-terrain tires. Ford’s model page lists 418 hp and seven drive modes.

Ford’s 2026 Bronco Raptor page calls HOSS 4.0 “a marvel of off-road engineering.” That is Ford’s marketing description; the practical case for this ranking rests on the published specifications and equipment rather than the phrase.
How the Bronco Raptor compares with other 2026 Broncos
The following figures are from Ford’s 2026 Bronco technical specifications. They compare Bronco configurations only; they should not be read as a cross-model comparison with the F-150 Raptors. Where Ford gives different values for two- and four-door versions, both are shown.

| Bronco Raptor | 13.0 / 14.0 in | 47.2° / 30.8° / 40.5° | 13.1 in | 37.0 in |
More clearance and favorable angles can help reduce contact with obstacles, while suspension travel and articulation-related equipment matter on uneven ground. Actual clearance and passability still depend on the vehicle’s configuration, the obstacle and the line a driver chooses.
2. F-150 Raptor R: strongest case for desert speed and power
Ford rates the F-150 Raptor R’s supercharged 5.2-liter V8 at 720 hp and 640 lb-ft. Its Dual-Valve Fox Racing Shocks and 37-inch tires support its high-speed desert-performance role. Those specifications make it the power pick, not a demonstrated winner over the Bronco Raptor on slow, narrow or technical trails: Ford’s cited 2026 material does not supply matching F-150 geometry figures or a comparative off-road test.

3. F-150 Raptor: capable desert-oriented pickup
The F-150 Raptor uses a high-output 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 rated by Ford at 450 hp and 510 lb-ft. Its standard tires are LT315/70 R17 BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires; Ford lists 37×12.5R17 tires and bead-lock-capable wheels as optional. The trim listing states 12 inches of minimum running ground clearance. Treat that as Ford’s stated F-150 figure, not as a directly measured comparison with the Bronco’s technical-specification table.
Ford’s Raptor model page names Trail Control, Trail 1-Pedal Drive and Trail Turn Assist, as well as sport-tuned front and rear shocks and FOX Live Valve technology. These systems and the truck’s tire options make it an off-road-capable pickup, while its lower output than the Raptor R explains its position in a ranking weighted toward desert performance.

Choose by terrain, not horsepower alone
- For technical trails: The Bronco Raptor has the clearest published advantage in obstacle geometry, ground clearance and suspension travel, plus locking axles and a front stabilizer disconnect.
- For high-speed desert use: The F-150 Raptor R has the strongest power case, with the F-150 Raptor offering a lower-output alternative.
- For tight or narrow routes: Vehicle dimensions and trail width can matter as much as headline specifications. Ford lists the Bronco Raptor at 86.9 inches wide, 191 inches long and a 116.5-inch wheelbase.
- For loaded driving or trips with passengers: Consider the actual vehicle load and configuration; the cited specifications do not establish one best setup for every load or trail.
- For obstacles involving contact or recovery: Protection and recovery equipment, such as the Bronco Raptor’s bash plates, rock rails and tow hooks, can be relevant alongside geometry and traction.
Use water-fording and obstacle figures cautiously
Ford’s published maximum water-fording figures are specifications, not permission to cross any body of water. Ford’s 2026 Bronco technical specifications direct drivers to consult the owner’s manual, understand the terrain and trail difficulty, use appropriate safety gear, and determine water depth before crossing. Conditions and the specific vehicle setup affect whether a crossing is safe.
Ford’s source set does not include an independent comparative test or a single capability score covering these three Raptors. The Bronco’s numerical lead is established against other Bronco configurations; the F-150 ranking reflects the stated equipment and use case rather than a direct test against the Bronco.
