Consumer Reports’ 2025 prediction points the other way. The XT5 also gets conflicting assessments, while the XT4 looks about average on limited data and the Escalade remains inconclusive. Cadillac’s newer electric SUVs do not yet have enough comparable evidence for a reliable ranking.
Cadillac SUV reliability ranking
This is a provisional ordering of the established gasoline XT models, followed by the Escalade. It weighs the type and maturity of the available evidence rather than treating an award, a survey-based prediction, and a quality-and-reliability score as interchangeable.
| Rank | Model | What the available evidence says |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Cadillac XT6 | Named a model-level award recipient in J.D. Power’s 2026 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study; Consumer Reports predicted below-average reliability for the 2025 model. |
| 2 | Cadillac XT5 | Second in its segment in GM’s summary of the 2026 J.D. Power study and rated 87/100 for Quality & Reliability by J.D. Power for 2025; Consumer Reports predicted much lower reliability for the 2025 model. |
| 3 | Cadillac XT4 | Consumer Reports predicted about-average reliability for the 2025 model, based on limited 2023–2025 data. |
| 4 | Cadillac Escalade | J.D. Power rated the 2025 model Average at 76/100 for Quality & Reliability, using previous-year ratings and review data; Consumer Reports had no detailed 2025 reliability data. |
The order is a guide to the strength of the evidence, not a guarantee that one model year will outlast another. The available results do not establish a precise lifetime-reliability ranking for every Cadillac SUV.
What the evidence says about each ranked model
1. Cadillac XT6: the strongest recent study signal, with a conflicting prediction
J.D. Power named the XT6 among the model-level award recipients in its 2026 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study. The study’s field period ran from December 2024 through November 2025. That is meaningful recent recognition, but it does not prove that every XT6 model year is dependable or that it is the most reliable Cadillac SUV in every owner’s experience.

Consumer Reports’ prediction for the 2025 XT6 is less favorable: it says the model is expected to be less reliable than the average new car, based on limited data from 2023–2025. Because these sources assess reliability differently, the XT6’s J.D. Power recognition should be read as a strong signal, not a decisive verdict.
2. Cadillac XT5: encouraging J.D. Power results, but a sharp disagreement
GM’s summary of the 2026 J.D. Power study places the XT5 second in the Midsize Premium SUV segment. Separately, J.D. Power’s 2025 model-year page gives it 87/100 for Quality & Reliability. Consumer Reports, however, describes the 2025 XT5 as much less reliable than other 2025 cars. The conflict makes a single-source winner claim misleading; check the model year and the specific type of rating when comparing XT5s.

3. Cadillac XT4: about average on a limited prediction
Consumer Reports expects the 2025 XT4 to have about-average reliability, while explicitly noting that its prediction draws on limited 2023–2025 data. That supports an “about average” description for this prediction, not a confident claim that the XT4 outranks the XT5 or XT6 over the long term.
4. Cadillac Escalade: not enough evidence for a firm placement
J.D. Power’s 2025 Escalade page shows an Average Quality & Reliability score of 76/100 and notes that it uses previous-year ratings and review data. Consumer Reports reports no detailed reliability data for the 2025 Escalade. Treat the Escalade as data-limited rather than confidently labeling it the least reliable Cadillac SUV.

Why the electric Cadillac SUVs are not ranked
Optiq, Lyriq, Vistiq, and Escalade IQ have Consumer Reports reliability pages, but the available evidence does not establish mature, comparable results across all four. Consumer Reports’ predictions draw on model history and subscriber survey information; some models may not have a sample large enough for statistically confident results. Placing these EVs above or below the gasoline models would imply a comparison the evidence does not support.
Consumer Reports describes the Optiq as Cadillac’s smallest electric SUV, positioned below the Lyriq. That is a lineup relationship, not evidence that one is more reliable than the other.

How to interpret the ratings
Dependability studies, predictions, and scores answer different questions
- J.D. Power’s 2026 Vehicle Dependability Study provides recent study recognition and segment placement. Those results do not establish lifetime reliability or guarantee an individual vehicle’s condition.
- Consumer Reports’ predicted reliability uses subscriber survey information and model history. Its 2025 model-page predictions can be explicitly limited by the amount of available data.
- A J.D. Power Quality & Reliability score is a separate measure from a Consumer Reports prediction; a score, prediction, and award should not be compared as if they were the same scale.
Consumer Reports says its reliability history covers 20 potential trouble spots for vehicles from 2000 through 2025, based on subscriber survey information. That describes the scope of its data coverage; it is not a Cadillac-specific reliability result.

What to check before buying a Cadillac SUV
- Compare the exact model year. Reliability findings cited here are tied to specific years or study periods, and should not be transferred automatically to another year.
- Review the vehicle’s history and condition. A brand- or model-level rating cannot tell you how a particular used SUV was maintained or whether it has unresolved problems.
- Check open recalls by VIN. A recall is a safety action for affected vehicles, not a complete measure of reliability. Consumer Reports’ 2025 XT4 page, for example, lists an air-bag deployment issue affecting 25 potentially affected units, with dealer replacement of the instrument-panel upper cover as the remedy. That recall-specific figure does not measure the XT4’s overall reliability.
