The Tesla Cybertruck remains hard to ignore: its distinctive design and close association with Elon Musk keep it culturally visible, while price changes, questions about demand and two very different recalls have renewed attention. The latest evidence gives a more precise picture than the simple claim that it is either a sales hit or a failure: Tesla has not reported a separate Cybertruck sales total in the cited filings, and the recalls affect different, defined groups of vehicles.
Why is the Cybertruck still in the news?
The Cybertruck combines an instantly recognizable shape with an unusually prominent public association with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. That makes it a subject of attention beyond ordinary vehicle shopping. Recent reporting has added more practical reasons to look again: Reuters described US price changes in February 2026, and federal and Tesla notices identify two distinct safety recalls.
That visibility does not prove that Musk’s politics caused any change in demand. Nor does a company-wide sales result establish how many Cybertrucks Tesla sold. Those claims require evidence at the model level, which Tesla’s cited filings do not provide.
How much does a Cybertruck cost now?
No verified October 2026 live price is established here. Reuters reported on February 20, 2026, that Tesla offered the dual-motor AWD Cybertruck for $59,990 for 10 days. The same report said the Cyberbeast price was cut to $99,990 from $114,990. Reuters said the price after the limited AWD offer was unclear at the time, so neither figure should be treated as a current quote.
#1 Best Overall
| Configuration | Price reported by Reuters on February 20, 2026 | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Dual-motor AWD | $59,990 | Offer stated to last 10 days; subsequent price was unclear in Reuters’ report. |
| Cyberbeast | $99,990, reduced from $114,990 | Price change reported on that date; not a verified October 2026 price. |
Reuters also reported that the Luxe Package appeared to have been discontinued alongside the price move; its wording was qualified, not confirmation of a permanent equipment change. Check Tesla’s current ordering information before relying on a price or package detail.
Is the Cybertruck selling well?
The available figures need to be kept in separate categories. Tesla’s 2025 Form 10-K says company-wide automotive sales revenue fell $6.66 billion, or 9%, from 2024 to 2025. Tesla attributed the decrease in part to approximately 8% fewer cash deliveries and lower average selling price per unit. Those are Tesla automotive figures overall, not Cybertruck sales.

Tesla’s second-quarter 2026 filing reports company-wide automotive sales revenue up 27% for the quarter and 24% for the first half compared with the corresponding prior-year periods; cash deliveries were up approximately 25% and 18%, respectively. The cited filing passages do not give Cybertruck unit sales.
The Atlantic cited an estimate of roughly 7,000 Cybertrucks sold in the first half of 2026. That is a secondary estimate, not a Tesla-reported total. It can inform discussion of the model’s sales, but it should not be presented as an official figure. Without a company-disclosed model total in these filings, broad corporate trends cannot settle whether the Cybertruck itself is selling well.

What Cybertruck recalls should owners check?
The two notices concern different conditions and populations. One is a software-addressed front parking-lamp issue; the other concerns a limited set of trucks with 18-inch steel wheels. Neither should be generalized to every Cybertruck.
Front parking-lamp intensity: check the VIN and software
Tesla’s support page says the recall covers certain model year 2024, 2025 and 2026 Cybertrucks manufactured from November 13, 2023, through October 11, 2025, if their software predates version 2025.38.3. The condition could allow the front parking lamps to be commanded above the maximum intensity specified by FMVSS 108. Tesla says version 2025.38.3 or later corrects the issue through an over-the-air update; affected vehicles with that software do not require a service visit. Use Tesla’s VIN lookup and recall instructions to check an individual truck’s status.

Tesla states on that recall page, specifically about the parking-lamp condition, “Tesla is not aware of any crashes, injuries or deaths related to the condition.” That statement is limited to this recall, not a finding about Cybertruck safety overall.
18-inch steel-wheel recall: a limited population
NHTSA’s Part 573 report for recall 26V255 identifies 173 potentially involved model year 2024–2026 Cybertrucks equipped with 18-inch steel wheels. It describes road perturbations and cornering as possible stresses around rotor stud holes; cracking could lead to wheel-stud separation. NHTSA warns that “Wheel stud separation may affect vehicle controllability, increasing the risk of a collision.” See the NHTSA Part 573 report for the defined scope and report details, and check a specific vehicle’s recall status with its VIN.

Quick Recap
What the evidence does—and does not—say
- Price: Reuters documented specific US price changes in February 2026, including a 10-day AWD offer. Those are dated report figures, not confirmed prices for October.
- Sales: Tesla’s cited filings provide corporate results, not a Cybertruck unit-sales tally. The roughly 7,000 first-half estimate comes from The Atlantic and is not an official Tesla number.
- Safety: Tesla and NHTSA describe two distinct, bounded recall issues. The notices support checking a truck’s software and VIN, not a blanket conclusion about every Cybertruck.
- Cultural attention: The vehicle’s design and Musk association help explain why it remains visible, but visibility alone does not establish the cause of a sales trend.
