The latest company annual report located, covering fiscal year 2021, said the vehicle was still being designed and disclosed substantial doubt about the company’s ability to continue as a going concern within the following 12 months. Those historical filings do not establish Elio’s exact status or vehicle availability in October 2026.
What Elio Motors proposed
Elio’s pitch was for an enclosed three-wheeled vehicle with two seats arranged in tandem, one behind the other. The company’s 2017 target specifications described a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout, a 0.9-liter three-cylinder engine rated at 55 horsepower, and a five-speed manual or automated-manual transmission. These were intended specifications for a planned vehicle, not confirmation of a production model available for delivery.
Why the price was described as $7,000
The headline price was a rounded promotional shorthand. A 2017 SEC registration statement put the targeted base price at $7,450, excluding options, destination and delivery charges, taxes, title, and registration. An earlier 2015 SEC filing gave an estimated retail price of $7,600, based on an assumed annual production volume of 125,000 vehicles. Neither figure establishes an actual retail transaction price.
What the 84-mpg claim meant
Elio described 84 mpg as projected highway mileage and also listed 49 mpg city. The figures were company-stated projections, not independently measured results. The reviewed SEC filings do not establish an independent road-test figure or a certified consumer fuel-economy rating, so the 84-mpg claim should not be treated as verified real-world performance.

What the filings say about progress
Elio’s annual report for fiscal year 2021 said the company was still designing a three-wheeled vehicle and reported substantial doubt about its ability to continue as a going concern within twelve months of the report. That is a dated disclosure: it does not, by itself, establish what happened to the company after that period. The available filings do not verify Elio’s legal or operating status, production, deliveries, or vehicle availability as of October 2026.

- Price: distinguish a proposed target from a price at which customers actually bought and received a vehicle.
- Fuel economy: distinguish projected highway or city mileage from an independent measurement or certified rating.
- Production: distinguish announced plans and design work from documented production and deliveries.
In an SEC-filed company exhibit, Paul Elio said, “We intend to build this vehicle to meet stringent safety standards.” That statement expressed intent; it is not evidence that the vehicle met those standards.
