Separately, a public YZ250 conversion video documents a kit-based build, but does not establish the kit’s availability, specifications or compatibility with other Yamaha models.
What Yamaha’s YE-01 electric motocross concept is
Yamaha describes the YE-01 as a live electric motocross development project with French electric motorcycle manufacturer Electric Motion. Its announced aim is eventual participation in MXEP, an electric motocross series scheduled to launch in the near future. The YE-01 has not been established as a customer motorcycle or conversion product.
In its September 28, 2026 announcement, Yamaha said the YE-01 Racing Concept would be displayed and make an exhibition run at the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations 2026 in Ernée, France. That is an announced exhibition and development step, not a completed MXEP championship result or proof that an electric conversion has transformed motocross. How Yamaha says the concept is engineered
Yamaha says the YE-01 combines YZ450F chassis technology and racing expertise with a purpose-specific electric power unit jointly developed with Electric Motion. The company’s November 2025 description characterized the chassis as based on the latest specification of the 2026 YZ450F and described a liquid-cooled electric powertrain intended to offer MXGP-level power. The published concept details also point to integration beyond simply replacing an engine. Yamaha has described battery placement intended to optimize center of gravity, power modes and rider aids, and a hydraulic clutch in its 2025 project description. Its September 2026 release calls the clutch mechanical and says the rider can control drive force through the clutch lever. Treat these as evolving concept features; the available descriptions do not establish comparative benefits through testing.
How the YE-01 differs from a Yamaha dirt-bike conversion
The YE-01 is a purpose-developed concept. A conversion is a separate project that replaces or adapts a particular motorcycle’s powertrain and may require custom packaging and fabrication. The distinction matters: Yamaha’s announcement does not offer a YE-01 kit, confirm that the concept’s components fit a YZ frame, or provide a recipe for recreating its design.

What a documented YZ250 conversion does—and does not—show
A video titled “First Electric Yamaha YZ250 // 2024 E&C Dirt Bike Conversion,” published December 2, 2023, describes testing a YZ250 electric conversion and identifies a “YZ250 Conversion Kit.” It shows that a kit-based Yamaha conversion has been publicly documented. It does not establish the kit’s specifications, current listing status, safety certification, ease of installation or compatibility with other Yamaha models. The published YZ250 conversion video

Do not assume a generic electric dirt bike conversion kit will bolt into a YZ frame or reproduce the YE-01. Before choosing components, confirm the requirements for the exact motorcycle and intended use with qualified suppliers or engineers.

- Electrical match: Check that the motor, controller and battery voltage and power requirements are compatible as a system.
- Packaging: Confirm battery dimensions, mounting points and frame clearance, including whether safe installation requires frame changes.
- Drivetrain: Verify alignment between the motor output and the motorcycle’s drivetrain, along with any needed adaptation.
