ICE Trikes’ PERS system replaces the usual chain connection with electrical propulsion: pedaling turns a generator, and a motor drives the trike. How ICE’s chainless trike works
ICE calls its system PERS, short for Pedaling Energy Recovery System. Rather than sending pedal force through a chain to the wheel, a generator at the front converts pedaling into electrical power, which is sent to a motor that propels the trike. ICE describes the setup as chainless and ride-by-wire. This differs from conventional electric-assist trikes that add motor assistance while retaining a chain drivetrain.
ICE’s system page describes the front pedal generator as converting pedaling into electrical power: ICE Trikes’ PERS system information. The manufacturer’s March 31, 2026 announcement put it simply: “No chain, it’s completely ride-by-wire.” That is the company’s description, not an independent assessment.

Is the ICE PERS trike available?
ICE said PERS was available to order in its March 31, 2026 announcement, and Utah Trikes lists an ICE Adventure PERS configuration. Those listings do not establish current inventory, price, shipping time, or eligibility in a particular region. Confirm those details with the manufacturer or seller before making a purchase decision.
How it differs from an ordinary electric trike
“Electric assist” does not necessarily mean “chainless.” Many electric trikes use a motor to supplement a conventional drivetrain, so the pedals still turn the wheel mechanically through a chain. PERS removes that mechanical connection between cranks and wheel; the rider pedals a generator, and a motor provides propulsion.

When comparing trikes, check the drivetrain architecture as well as motor and battery figures. A separate chainless product, Steintrikes’ Rebel E-core, lists 750 W peak power, 250 W continuous rated power and a 700 Wh battery; those figures apply to that model, not ICE PERS. ICE’s published PERS specifications list a 250 W rear hub motor, 75 Nm of torque and a 700 Wh battery.
